100% agree with you Paul about the advantages of playing towards the Holker Street End in the second half. I've never understood why we have changed that in recent times?pjdaly wrote: ↑Sat Sep 19, 2026 6:46 pm Murray said on RC that that was his first experience of the wind (blowing towards the Holker Street End as it does 9 times out of 10). He needs to be aware of this, as winter is coming and there'll be days like these . . . many more days like these.
So, yes, we struggled in the first half but hardly surprising given advantage of said wind. But the second half was as it should have been once we had the wind at our backs . . . and I mentioned to Pedro recently in a post that with conditions such as this we should face the wind in the first half and try to survive (which is what we did) and then blow the opposition away in the second half with the wind at our backs (which is kinda what we did, but the woodwork kept it closer than it should have been).
No complaints from here. We managed the conditions very well. Agree with what others have said about just how well Oakley played. Well played all, and once again no complaints about the level of commitment shown.
(Just as an aside – having mentioned the famed wind blowing towards the Holker Street End – I wonder if anybody on here remembers a match against Goole in late 1983 when it was blowing a hoolie and Goole attacked the Holker Street End and went in at half-time three goals up, only for Barrow to take advantage of the wind in the second half and run out 4-3 winners. An unforgettable match for anyone who witnessed it).

If I remember correctly, Kennedy's goal was a direct free kick not too far from the halfway line.Main Stand SeasonTct wrote: ↑Sat Sep 19, 2026 7:03 pm
Yes I remember that remarkable game against Goole. Not sure the ball even went into the penalty area at the steelworks end every goal in the Holker street end it was some comeback
A Barry Diamond brace Keith Kennedy and Steve Brooks the scorers

I seem to remember some sort of a dramatic comeback against South Liverpool as well at H Street.
Cant be sure really, memory fades.

Re: Barrow v Aldershot Town match thread
Come to think of it, even on those occasions when we have a match where there is no wind (rare I know) I think it is still preferable – provided the coin-toss allows – to try to take the option of attacking the Holker Street End in the second half. Football might be a game of two halves (meaning that occasionally a game can be more or less done by half-time) but very often the second half is the "business end" of a match when games can be won or lost and so it makes sense to have the Holker Street crowd sucking the vital winning goal into the net as the match nears its conclusion. Obviously the more suckers in the Holker Street End the better. So I suppose good times = more suckers in the Holker Street End. Mind you, in all my years of pitching up at the stadium it's during the bad times that I've felt most like a sucker. And I don't even stand on the Holker Street terrace. Thankfully yesterday was more sigh than suck. I would like to know the stats to see if we actually do score more goals in the holker street end !pjdaly wrote: ↑Sun Sep 20, 2026 1:33 pmCome to think of it, even on those occasions when we have a match where there is no wind (rare I know) I think it is still preferable – provided the coin-toss allows – to try to take the option of attacking the Holker Street End in the second half. The Tunnel and walkout music is awesome.
Ref Holker street end is there any reason we can't have the full terrace again ? Away fans rarely fill it in this league . seems like a big waste of space.

I agree they should open the section behind the goals it intimidates the away goalkeepers!

Re: Barrow v Aldershot Town match thread
Get some Fontaines D.C. on at the start, he’s from Barrow isn’t he.
Couple of days later 7 points from 12 isn’t that bad really, gives us a kick start going forward. Solihull was a really poor result but Worthing have since beaten Hornchurch and tonked Hartlepool so in retrospect that was a decent point.
Allen and Edwards level us up, both great signings.

Only problem is, like on Saturday, the wind seemed to drop in the second half.
Aldershot couldn't handle having the wind advantage in the first half, as they continually over hit the ball for goalkicks.

Re: Barrow v Aldershot Town match thread
After watching the replay on dazn i thought we were poor first half and lucky not to be behind at half time a bit better second half but we got the important win i thought a draw would of a fair result as its poor football to watch the standard seems low or its a style i dislike how we play now

The free kick was aimed at Barry Diamond who tried to punch the ball as it was too high, he missed, but that distracted the keeper and it went straight into the goal. I was stood right behind the goal.xerxes wrote: ↑Sun Sep 20, 2026 12:31 pmIf I remember correctly, Kennedy's goal was a direct free kick not too far from the halfway line.Main Stand SeasonTct wrote: ↑Sat Sep 19, 2026 7:03 pm
