About potentially reaching the play-offs...

I don't think it will happen, but I've got too much time on my hands this afternoon and I was bored, so I thought I'd look at the figures.

There has been a few mentions of our promotion run in 2007-08. It was mentioned again on BBC RC last night that we gained promotion from a similar position under D&D. The managerial change that season was much earlier, just after we played Bournemouth in the 2nd round of the FA Cup. I don't recall us actually being bottom at the time either, though I could be wrong on that. Just looking at the figures it is mathematically possible.

We have 19 games left or 57 points to play for, we currently have 25 points so a maximum possible of 82. We have collected 13 points from our last 5 games. If that form is maintained we would likely achieve 76 points (assuming last for games are all wins), that of course would give us a new record unbeaten run.

Recent Conference North play-off promotions...
2012-13 5th Halifax 75 Promoted
2011-12 5th Nuneaton 72 Promoted
2010-11 5th Guiseley 73 (2nd place Telford promoted)
2009-10 5th Droylesden 64 (2nd place Fleetwood promoted)
2008-09 5th Southport 76 (2nd place Gateshead promoted)
2007-08 5th Barrow 76 Promoted

It is possible but we would definitely need another very long undefeated run.

Please tell me if I'm wrong but if I remember rightly out promotion charge actually started around February time?
Didn't we lose to stalybridge at home in around the last game in January then went unbeaten from then?

Not even thinking about it myself, one game at a time, get the points to guarentee safety then after that there's no harm in seeing how far off we are ha

Nice to be there or thereabouts but we cannot afford to go up just yet...unless the takeover comes about in time!

One step at a time!

I dont think its possible but you have to dream i suppose.

Is the team we have now as good? I wouldnt say so, especially in defence.

I don't think it's even worth mentioning the play-offs. The team is nowhere near as good as the team that won in 07/08, plus we have stronger opposition with the likes of Telford, Alty, North Ferriby etc in the league. I'd be over the moon with a top-half finish now, considering our dreadful start.

Mid table would do for me after the start we've had and putting a smile on supporters faces again....... :scarf: :scarf: :scarf:

Chronicles of [SwearFilter] mentioning the play offs. A bit embarrassing actually

Lets not get carried away with ourselves, and enjoy what we are achieving at the minute! When we have our blip under Edmo, then we will see if we have finally got rid of the Dave Bayliss hangover!!

I think thats a bit unfair (although I personally don't think we'll end up anywhere near the play-offs.....but who would of when Matt Henney mentioned them six years ago at about this time of year, top half is realistic imo & thats about it)

If people want to speak about the possibility of reaching the play-offs, let them - the more people we have speaking positively about the club the better. I've noticed a massive difference in work already, the usual suspects have shut their [SwearFilter] mouths for a change & I'm getting all sorts of people just wanting to speak about how well the team are doing including one who hasn't been for severel years now but is talking about him & his son-in-law coming to watch a game shortly.

Absolutley no chance we will make the play-offs, I would let my all my hair be shaved off on the pitch if it happened not a chance.

I'm not surprised you've replied to me! We're 18 points off the play off. The three out of the 4 games we've won have been against Workington who are bottom and Stalybridge who are 17th, yes we've had an excellent win against brackley (and by the sounds of it they could have one) We have made improvements but lets not get to far ahead of ourselves we are still well in a relegation dog fight, however recent weeks have given us all new found optimism. Let's not put pressure on the lads by mentioning the play offs. #GiveMeSixthBottom

We've beat bottom of the league Workington, bottom of the form guide Stalybridge and 19th in the form guide Brackley... Yes it is promising and we're definitely turning a corner, but right now I'm still more worried about a relegation battle then anything else... a couple of defeats in our big games against some of the other teams down here (Oxford/Gloucester) and we could be right back in trouble.

What is truly heartening about this particular 'sub-thread' is the never failing optimism of the football fan. Relegation certainties to promotion hopefuls in the space of three weeks. Truly amazing

My only worry now is that our excellent run of form will result in Edmo being awarded the kiss of death trophy MOTM!

exactly, great run of wins but a loss on Saturday and the mood changes. Looking good though :scarf:
