Pretty sure ties can be moved on safety grounds - if Westfields had got to the 3rd round and drew Man Utd at home, there is no way their park ground could host that game.Lancaster Branch wrote:You can't switch a game. In 2015, Sunderland tried to get Bradford to switch their tie to the Stadium of Light because the pitch at Bradford was a mess. I think it can be done, but just not for financial reasons.

At the end of the day there is a capacity cap for a reason. People would miss out but they stopped swapping over after Arsenal and Farnborough did it some years ago iirc.
Steve Herbert supports the nob theory - Saturday 4th February 2012.
If this bus crashed and everybody on it died, Barrow football would end - Daz Boyle, Boston away, August 9th 2014.

If there are a enough stewards and police then Holkter St should be fine, it's not like they'll sell more tickets than the allowed capacity.Moribund wrote:Pretty sure ties can be moved on safety grounds - if Westfields had got to the 3rd round and drew Man Utd at home, there is no way their park ground could host that game.

The competition rules state no venue changes allowed unless the FA say so. Any ground outside the Premiership and football league needs to be assessed for safety and security. If the local authorities, including the police have concerns then the club involved has to include this in the assessment to the FA. If the ground is not considered safe or secure the FA (or Professional Game Board) then decide where or when the tie should be played including any financial arrangements due to the game being moved. If the tie has to be moved it is supposed to be the nearest suitable ground, decided by the FA. If it is allowed to go ahead on the original ground then the away side has the right to protest.
Just like league matches, sometimes the assessment will lead to the game being played at a different time rather than moved.
Sometime time ago we went through a rash of lower league sides switching their tie to the larger ground of their opponents, to make more money on the gate. Farnborough v West Ham comes to mind, it went to a replay so they played at West Ham twice, something like £100K+ x2. Rather than try and beat the bigger sides on their own turf, a lot of smaller clubs started seeing pound signs and put in a request to switch. So the FA put a rule in that simply said, a change of venue with a financial consideration would not be allowed, so don't ask.

Re: Bristol Rovers vs Barrow - Match thread
What can be done short term to increase the capacity of Holker Street if we manage to get a home tie against a bigger club?
Temporary stand behind the terrace by the Crossbar?
Extra Crash barriers on the popular side?

What can be said that hasn't already been said?
Head is bursting but so glad I went.
We weathered the storm at points but fought hard to stay in the game and took the chances for a deserved win.
Lions, every one of them. Thank you Barrow.
Noisiest away support at a proper ground since Burton- incredible at the end, especially considering the lack of roof..
I totally see while the club will want the town day trip to Old Trafford but I want someone at home. A proper old school club at home, Villa, Leeds, Spurs something like that.
Wonderful day, spent with wonderful people. Looking around at the end, seeing the people you see week in week out, the emotion of it...there's not much better than football on days like these.

Exactly. If your ground can only safely handle x people, you can only sell x tickets. It's one of the few things the FA have done right to preserve some of the integrity of the Cup, otherwise you'd never have a lower level team hosting a 'big' team ever again.Chris Benoit wrote:At the end of the day there is a capacity cap for a reason. Anyway, we'll probably end up with Port Vale away so it's not worth fretting about

Bit of a dirty stamp on Erlandsson at the end there.
Popular side since '03.

Yes it was a nasty uncalled for stamp. Balanced up by a nice hand slap to Danny by one of their player's after Danny had rescued us once again from a bit of an onslaught.Matty wrote:Bit of a dirty stamp on Erlandsson at the end there.
I also noticed just before the 3 min board goes up their player does a back pass to the goalie who picks it up. Byron made an appeal to the liner but then carried on with the game. That could have been our third goal, relieved the pressure and saved me from hiding in the Ladies for what I thought were the last few nerve wracking minutes only to emerge to find time added on!!!!!!!
Thank goodness my blood pressure tablets are working well.
A shout out to the Safety Officer who gave the order to remove the signs saying "No Away Fans" at their clubhouse. It was a good job too as I was already in and eating a lovely Cornish Pastie by then. I had my Barrow scarf on but neither the bouncers or anyone else challenged me.
The team held firm and did us proud.
Support was tremendous and it was like the good old days were back.
A joyous, joyous time and a fantastic time to be a Barrow fan.

Re: Bristol Rovers vs Barrow - Match thread
Another part of the day that I enjoyed was a man and his little boy on our coach.
I was chatting to him when we were at the services and he said he brought his little lad so he would realise what it meant to be a Barrow fan.
A great day to do it on and I told him this day will be in his memory box when he grows up and he will be writing about today's match the same as fans are doing now about theirs.
His next comment was---- your mam can forget all about watching Emmerdale tomorrow night---she stands no chance. Hahahaha
I love it.

Paul Cox interview after the game on the Youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h7J2vZhcPek
The guy looks like he is about to cry - he is obviously very proud of the players - he is making some history at Barrow and breaking some records.
