A really good day out in Wigan sharing their town with their good people for the day, with some very good hostelries to quench our thirsts. Even the spoons was a well served pint of ale, take note Furness Railway🙏
A very good vibe in the town itself which has very much retained its traditional charm. You could even visit Santapaws in one bar, if you brought your pooch. 🦴
On to the match we were our usual pretty average meh self first half as others have already said. Something kicked us into shape second half, a well taken goal by Jack Earing inspired us into rolling our sleeves up and actually making a cup tie out of it. We went ahead through Canavan and suddenly euphoria erupted, could we achieve what looked like the impossible……. They scored late in the game to dampen the spirits somewhat, but still we believed going in to extra time. All level at the end but we were in the penalty lotto.🤔 Could we, would we🙏 Never going to criticise anyone for missing a penalty but sadly not but a valiant effort in the end👏
Not much time to lick our wounds before we go again in the league, We need a win, if we show that second half mentality and togetherness we may just get it.

I am pondering why we are only playing in 20-30 minutes spells and often only when chasing the game. By all accounts first half abysmal again, this despite Whing’s cut and paste pre match recognition that this is an issue. Mindset, belief?
Add attitude to the mix too..
That I’m afraid comes from the top . We went ahead, deservedly, and I thought please don’t sit back. Which is exactly what we did . We had an excellent 25/30 mins in the second half. The other 60 mins of normal time was not excellent at all .

Some great individual performances though from Gordon, Whitfield, Barkhousen and Earing.

Anyone see the Carlisle tonight? Definitely a good team going forward & caused a low on confidence Blackpool a few issues early on. But defensively they are poor (although Hughes made the usual excuse of three centre backs out - but Mark we all have injuries don't we). Anyway I digress. Carlisle gave away a sloppy goal like we did after about 15 mins. But they decided to go on the front foot but were becoming less effective. Guess what happened they went on to let two further goals in a 5 min period and went in 3-0 down at half time. Although they got a good goal back early in second half the game was over by half time. My point is, referring to my earlier post, if we'd have gone gung ho in first half it would have been game over for us by half time as Wigan would have picked us off because, technically, they have better players than ours particularly up front and Blackpool proved today. I think we generally played it right after being poor for the first 25 mins or so and got ourselves back in the game. Carlisle, tonight, were never really in the game.

And by the way I'm still fed (insert whatever swear word here if you wish) up after yesterday at not being in the bag for the third round. One of my final wishes before I go to the great football field in the sky is that I want to see Barrow play in the 4th round of the FA Cup! (Plus staying in the EFL of course). And play Man United at Old Trafford as well. Not asking for much I guess.

Move on !
I’m also one that can’t move on. We took the lead with five minutes to go and we couldn’t game manage that to see ourselves in the hat for Monday’s draw. If I was an owner I’d be gutted and if Wigan get drawn away to Man Utd probably suicidal. We missed a huge opportunity yesterday and sadly these sort of opportunities don’t come around often. I’m still annoyed today and I’m not responsible for paying the clubs wages. God knows how the club’s owners must be feeling. Anyway on to Tuesday, weather permitting.

I live in Blackpool so I went along. I agree with your point. As a side note it was a strange but enjoyable atmosphere with more Carlisle fans than Blackpool in the ground.

They may be out of the FA Cup but I hope they get promoted back to the EFL for next season as there away following probably create the best atmosphere we get at Holker street. Also the financial benefit we recieve is most welcome and the banter and rivalry between the supporters and on the Radio airwaves is decent.

As long as it is the EFL we meet Carlisle in next season! Hope Rochdale make it as well.

Carlisle look good moving the ball and threatening going forward, but there’s a risk trying to match that up toe-to-toe with an Evatt side, You’ve got to be better than them at it. Blackpool too strong for them. Saying that, it was a free flowing game. We’d have probably sat in deep against either of these two.
"To achieve anything and to get to the Football League, we have to expect to win every game. I've got to get everyone believing that we can, and I will work hard to embed that mentality into the players, the town, the board and whoever else” Ian Evatt.

It was a decent game imo. The thing that stuck out to me was that as you go up the leagues chances get put away more readily. Blackpool were ruthless with their opportunities where as Carlisle were not although Blackpools keeper played a part In that pulling off some great saves
