Surely to bring about the immediate lifting of the embargo it would be preferable to arrange a direct transfer of funds to HMRC, rather than a cheque (which will most likely need to go through
Agreed Bassdriver, a direct payment can very easily be sent to HMRC for free, it has the recipient account details on the bill, and the bank can do this very easily at a customers request, even do it online if they were worried about going into the bank in case it got out how much its for. Why send a cheque, get with the times.
Perhaps just a figure of speech...

Maybe but you'd say 'the cheques in the post' - not 'we're sending the cheque today' - pedantic maybe from me. Also they will most likely get charged for writing/paying in cheques on their business bank account whereas generally 'electronic/automated' payments are free, I know it's not a lot but it's money that could be saved with a bit of forethought.

Statement from the Official website:
Further to the statement made by Brian Keen yesterday regarding the position the club finds itself in we have been asked to confirm the following:
Having a player embargo placed on the club is not something that we wanted to happen, nor is it where we want to be but given recent circumstances of cup postponements due to weather and the loss of a home league game to the cup replay followed by no home game until late January the club has a cash flow problem.
The board can reassure fans that there is no long term financial danger to the club. Obviously money is tight with lower than hoped for league gates of less than a thousand. You can rest assured that the situation will be resolved at the earliest opportunity this week.
Further statements will follow to keep fans updated.

From the Evening Probe, BK is quoted as saying "We have all talked and it will be sorted in the morning. It's just one National Insurance Bill to be cleared which will be done tomorrow (he was speaking Sunday). Other than that we are in full control and
we are healthier now than we have been over the last 12 years."
The bumbling Boris Johnson shtick doesn't wash for me any more. Fair play to anyone who still thinks the BoD are in control, I personally don't.

Do people still use cheques!!? surely that is just a figure of speech and a smooth bank transfer has occurred today, lifting the embago immediatley and enabling DB to add to the squad for tomorrow
or am I just being hopeful...

I think the bod were pinning all their hopes financially on getting passed Macclesfield in the cup.

BK on Radio Cumbria yet again about 5.45 saying they'd had a meeting with the Accountants and spoken to the 'NI people'. Going to a meeting at HS this evening and club will issue another statement tonight or tomorrow. Will speak to the NI man again tomorrow.
Said the club is in good heart - appreciated the support of the fans.
Put the whole episode down to a lack of or bad communication.
Confident the oDonnell signing will go ahead soon.
'Nothing to worry about!'

Yesterday it was all going to be sorted today, now we are talking to the NI people tomorrow and its going to be resolved at the earliest opportunity this week? When this week? I understood we also have to provide proof of payment to the Conference in order for the embargo to be lifted yet there is no mention of speaking to the Conference. Doesn't sound like we'll get any clearance in time to sign anyone for tomorrow night so will have 11 players and a subsitute goalkeeper for the away game at Luton unless we also name an injured player on the bench? We only need a couple of injuries and then what? Seemingly that's alright then is it?
I really hope they aren't paying by cheque as its likely we'll also be unable to sign anyone in time for Gateshead as well? The NI won't trust an uncleared cheque as proof of payment.
This NI bill hasn't just come up on the club recently it must have been unpaid for a while in order for the embargo to have been put on the club in the first place. We've had 12 home league games as well as 3 well attended home Cup/Trophy games and some FA Cup/Trophy prize money (perhaps not all) but the club shouldn't have got into such a mess as this. BK's statement about it just being a lack of communication and the club being in the healthiest state it has been is a complete and utter joke when you consider we may not have 11 fit and available players after tomorrow night?
