If people want to speak about the possibility of reaching the play-offs, let them - the more people we have speaking positively about the club the better. I've noticed a massive difference in work already, the usual suspects have shut their [SwearFilter] mouths for a change & I'm getting all sorts of people just wanting to speak about how well the team are doing including one who hasn't been for several years now but is talking about him & his son-in-law coming to watch a game shortly.
I'm not surprised you've replied to me! We're 18 points off the play off. The three out of the 4 games we've won have been against Workington who are bottom and Stalybridge who are 17th, yes we've had an excellent win against brackley (and by the sounds of it they could have one) We have made improvements but lets not get to far ahead of ourselves we are still well in a relegation dog fight, however recent weeks have given us all new found optimism. Let's not put pressure on the lads by mentioning the play offs. #GiveMeSixthBottom
Think you need to re-read what I said. "top half is realistic imo & thats about it"

My point was more to do with - let people dream & post positives, whats the harm?
We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.

We don't want to be anywhere near the play off zone until we are properly set up for promotion. We'd buy that scenario for a dollar wouldn't we?
We will foller the soccer, over land and sea...

Didn't we lose to stalybridge at home in around the last game in January then went unbeaten from then?
Ok ;) your wrong.

Your probably are thinking about the start of the 22 match unbeaten run that started on 2nd Feb at home to Redditch. The promotion charge actually started much earlier when D&D took over in November 2007, although back then no one even entertain the idea as we were on the brink of the relegation zone. Under D&D we collected 22 points and scored 27 goals in 11 games prior to that defeat against Stalybridge. The last 17 league matches that got us in the play-offs was exceptional form, 13 wins and 4 draws. Most remember that part as it became part of the well known 22 match unbeaten run.

We only reached the play-offs because we only lost twice from November right through to the end of the season, 29 league games. We went 7 unbeaten, 1 defeat, 3 unbeaten, 1 defeat (1-3, Stalybridge), 17 unbeaten then 3 unbeaten play-off games, 2 unbeaten premier games the following season (17+3+2=22). It is highly unlikely that that promotion will be repeated but the way the team is currently playing, we are at least likely to see some decent matches between now and the end of the season.

A brief reminder of history...

Phil Wilson up to his sacking in November 2007 had been very poor in the league. Two league wins in the first five games of the season, a few draws but mostly defeats, very similar to Bayliss. We were on the edge of the drop zone and had not won for two months and that was sighted as the reason for sacking him. He was relieved of his duties after the 1-1 home draw against Bournemouth in the FA Cup 1st Round, 10th November 2007. D&D took charge for the replay which we heroically lost 3-2 in the last minute of extra time, amongst Radio 5 Live (& sky sports news) making jokes about how many managers does it take to get things done. We then went on the rampage, we shipped 4 past the next four teams to visit Holker St. 4-0 against Telford was the first. We even put 5 past Solihull at home and Redditch away. We were only beaten in 2 league games from the point D&D took over to the end of the season. At Burscough we lost 2-1 and then on the 26th of January Stalybridge came to Holker St and won 3-1. The following Saturday Redditch visited Holker St and were beaten 2-0, the first game of an unbelievable 22 match unbeaten run that eventually put us in and briefly top of the Conference Premier.
