Fleetwood were expected to win the league with the money they spent, we are not. Fleetwood did, Barrow probably won't.
Plus Barrow were not one of the best sides in the division, Grimsby are probably the best.

Knew we'd lost by checking on here before seeing the score - we're at 10 pages already. A victory only garnered 8 pages in 4 days.

Miserable buggers ;-)

Still hopeful of a finish between 11th and 14th, which is a realistic ambition for this season. Consolidate and prepare for seasons to come both on and off the pitch. I hope our relegation fears are out of the window by March.

plus after that defeat they went out and bought more players!

to be honest i`m glad we have got beat because at least we can now learn from this and if changes need to be made then so be it!(see nickanderton has gone to aldershot for a month loan!)

The Grimsby supporter I work with predicted 4 - 0 to me last week, he's also been telling me how much they've improved the squad since the end of last season, & they were a decent outfit then.

I don't think the scoreline was a massive shock to many but from what the lads who were there were saying it sounds like it was more the performance that seemed to disappoint than the actual score itself.
If we find ourselves on the receiving end of a couple more scorelines like that, then that's the time to worry.
We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.

Talking about stinking of fish.
Remember a team in August 2011 coming to Holker Street and being played off the park, losing 4-0, yet going on to amass 103 points and finishing champions.
Fleetwood did it, so can Barrow.

Think rc more or less said barrow didn't put in too bad a performance, kept battling and basically the difference was the final third and their forwards being outstanding tonight. Didn't expect a win tonight but I've said it time and time again playing with the lone striker is pointless - whether it would have made a difference tonight against what sounded like a very strong Grimsby side I don't know but it's very defensive imo
It's over on to Saturday and fingers crossed for a better performance

Could see this coming after Saturday's game which we appeared to ride our luck a few times combined with a talented Grimsby side smarting after conceding four at the weekend against Kidderminster, does seem that weaknesses have been exposed at right back, which we expected, and uncharacteristically from the two centre halves and being not properly set up by Edmo, we'll dust ourselves down, make a few changes and ready to go again next Saturday but another tough test away at Forest Green hopefully with a more solid look and greater support to Cooky up top :scarf:

One positive tonight was young Elliot Newby coming on and finding the net. What a great achievement playing in front of a big crowd and grabbing a goal on your full debut. Just a pity about the end result. Hope we've got a diamond there. Well done.

SKIPPER wrote:I predicted 3-0 so in terms of goal difference spot on.A Grimsby fan at the Kiddy game on Saturday said it was the most one-sided draw he had ever seen so the chances of us getting anything were slim at best. They were beaten in the play-offs last season and have strengthened far beyond what teams like us have. Monkhouse was a regular scorer at Hartlepool and we all know Bogles capabilities. We'd have got no more if we'd only lost 1-0 to a scrappy goal. I'm not blinkered just a realist. Results like this should highlight the failures and we should act on them lets wait and see.
Sounds fair to me. Grimsby are a big hitter in this league, and I don't think anyone was expecting us to be smashing the playoff contenders off the park every week.

It's a bad result, and an apparent lack of fight (I wasn't there) is concerning, but let's not despair after one loss any more than we weren't predicting promotion after one win. 4 days into the season is no time for over-reactions

You don't want negative tactics to set the tone for the season.
