Re: Ground maintenance area
Did anyone get the Bargain Booze boards out when you were down as he is coming to pick them up today and I will have to shift all those heavy boards myself if not?

Re: Ground maintenance area
Seriously Elaine, there are far too many boards stacked up for one person to be looking through them. Before we knew about the Bargain Booze one being kept out we were struggling ourselves to stop them falling on us, that's a lot of weight when there's fifty - sixty boards all together.Holkerbird wrote:Did anyone get the Bargain Booze boards out when you were down as he is coming to pick them up today and I will have to shift all those heavy boards myself if not?
Can they not wait till Friday when me & Mrssenorita will dig it out?
Also, have they stopped sponsoring the club all together, because if they have is there not one on the outside of the ground that will also have to come down? Do they actually own the board? Are we now just opening up the GMA for anyone to stroll in to take old boards? who is keeping an eye on people in there?
This advertising board fiasco is joke!

We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.

Re: Ground maintenance area
Lots of hard work done over the close season but all good fun and hopefully it has made a difference too!
Thanks to Ian, John and everyone else for setting it up initially so that we could all get started
The bargain booze boards are particularly big and heavy and there are two of them, and if I seem to remember there being another one on the outside wall on Holker Street, a Dalton branch one or something, not sure if it is still up there. That is/was raised a bit of a way up the wall so might need a few people to take it down if they are stopping sponsorship completely.
Good points about the GMA, I think although we need to encourage people to come along and help there is alot of tools and materials in there that are worth a fair bit so it needs to be monitored.

Re: Ground maintenance area
They had already been when I got to the ground and have taken their boards. When I questioned him about them on Monday he said they cost them a few hundred and they were checking to see if they were broken etc. I asked if they were going to continue to sponsor us and he said they could be. He had obviously spoken to someone prior to picking them up as he said he had arranged to collect them previously but something had cropped up.
I thought the money they paid was for the actual sponsorship and not necessarily for the boards themselves.
I was with the chap all the time when he came to see them the first time and when I questioned Les about it today he said he knows the chap and it would be ok for him to be in there. I think Les said he is a man who comes to all the home games.
It needs clarifying who actually owns the boards although I can't see many firms wanting the boards anyway if they are not continuing sponsorship.

Re: Ground maintenance area
Just grabbed an hour or two up the workshop and still nice and tidy and spacious........as Graham has done a cracking job on the module backboards for the changing room , I was able to complete another 2 4 foot ones tonight.....so please pass on or thanks to Graham Elaine.
Theres the 2 large boards to have one side glossed so I can complete the 2 eigth footers and he can then paint the backs of the ones finished tonight and the eight footers when I get them screwed up.......all that remains is to build a purpose built one to fill in the longest side of the home changing room
They should look great with the mirrors in and ste storeys designs in them. also ste is designing some images above these modules to create a powerful effect in there.
we look forward to ste presenting these proposals soon.
At the asset meeting on monday, we had a list of around 20 jobs on the go and 10 in planning but it was a good meeting enabling us to agree on the priority jobs.
this list now gives us focus to concentrate on the next batch

I think there's a sink and pedestal in the storage cupboard in reception so I will put it in the GMA on Friday so it doesn't get forgotten about. Someone put it in there months ago.

Re: Ground maintenance area
When the firms took out a standard sized board previously it used to be £350+VAT for a new board and £250+VAT for renewing current sponsorship where a board already existed, so I think the extra cost was for the manufacture of the boards but as for who owned the boards I'm unsure as that would have been agreed between the club and the person/company advertising.Holkerbird wrote:I thought the money they paid was for the actual sponsorship and not necessarily for the boards themselves.

Firms may want their boards back to display them in other locations.
As mentioned previously it also needs to be clarified about the advertising boards, not just the size of the board but those that are inside and outside of the ground as the ones outside the ground may well be a different charge to those inside the ground?

Re: Ground maintenance area
The one's on the outside were more costly John, but the advertising area is now max'd out on the exterior as the council won't allow anymore to go up - it's basically one down - one up.John Very Little wrote:As mentioned previously it also needs to be clarified about the advertising boards, not just the size of the board but those that are inside and outside of the ground as the ones outside the ground may well be a different charge to those inside the ground?

Re: Ground maintenance area
Sneaky little visit by myself & Mrssenorita this afternoon & when we got there Graham was hard at work painting on the pop side. That man has put in some hours lately & has helped Mrssenorita out quite a bit with the painting of the changing room modules.
Our main aim today was to plot out the lines roughly for the new toilets on the pop side, next time your there you'll notice some markings by the ladies & gents just behind the turnstiles. The markings are sort of where the new walls will go, the interior layout will depend on how Whitty 69 tells us it'll best work plumbing-wise.
There are also some markings at the side of Vaughans car park which again show how the wall will close off the gap & also how we hope to have the ladies & gents put back to back to double the amount of toilets on the main stand side of the ground, again depending on how Whitty 69 tells us it'd best work. I can't see too many problems as the pipes are already in place & just need extending & connecting.
This will all be completed at very little cost as we'll re-use all the blocks knocked down from the car park & hopefully when we dismantle the portaloo in the same area we'll be able to make use of the sinks, toilets & urinals.
We WILL without doubt struggle with the lack of a bricklayer to help Tommy out, so again, if you can help us or know of anyone who can....please give us a shout.
As you can see there is also a lot of plumbing work to be done & it's totally unreasonable to expect Whitty 69 to be able to do all that as well as the home changing rooms, so we need another plumber or two to help for a few hours here & there.
I can't believe there is only one plumber & one brickie on here, any help would be greatly appreciated, & again will help improve our ground no end.
We also had a little time left over to carry on with the improvements going on in the GMA, this will be ongoing for quite a while but is important as we were simply outgrowing the area we originally had. We now, or will be when we're finished, be making use of virtually half of the underneath of the main stand - quite an area.
Thanks to Elaine who kept us supplied with cups of tea - bloody marvel is that woman

Re: Ground maintenance area
Any use for this-
From tonight's Evening Mail-
"As work continues on the new £1.2m soccer centre at Barrow Park, the astroturf from the old pitch is being given away by the developers....a number of sports clubs have already shown an interest including Dalton United and Barrow Golf Club....The turf has been cut into lengths measuring 20m x 2m and any club interested in any of this turf can contact Keith Johnson (Barrow Council) on 01229 876543 or Margaret Wilson (Park Leisure Centre) on 01229 871146....
"The turf is available over the next 2-3 weeks but is quite heavy and will need a van to take it away..We are happy for sports clubs to have as much as they want"... (otherwise it will go to landfill)
Well there's a free offer.
Was thinking we could maybe use some of this this in the technical areas in front of the dug outs?, maybe the first aid dug out? or at the tunnel entrance onto the pitch?, saves them areas getting chewed up.
just a thought? Do we want any? It's there for collection.
By the way the article also says that the floodlight pylons have been given to the Raiders. Damn we could have used them- the lamps themselves must be worth a bob or two and half of ours don't work.

Also looks like all the perimeter fencing has come down so must be getting totally re-done- maybe there's some of that we could use (segregation?)

My personal view is that if it's available, we should probably try and get some.
Like you say, for the technical areas and area by the tunnel it would be ideal.
We'd need a man and van, any volunteers?

The astroturf they've ripped up is absolutely shite quality Pete, not sure if it's worth the effort for technical areas.

Re: Ground maintenance area
We were going to buy a small piece for the players entry point to the pitch (by the tunnel) so whatever state it's in, it'll be better than whats there now & it'll save us a £100.
Can anyone pick some up, a small van would do or even a car with a biggish boot area.

The guy who has the Dalton branch of Bargain Booze is a big Barrow fan so may be worth contacting him directly to ask about the sign on the outside wall
