I have been saying this for so long now! I refuse to accept that our kids are much/any worse than kids of the same age from other areas of the country.

With better coaching and guidance, there is absolutely no reason why more of our youngsters wouldn't be able to ascend to Barrow's level, or higher.

The only thing that keeps me interested in the club these days is the fervent hope that in the not too distant future, we can move away from the current model of importing overpaid underachieving players that visit the town once per fortnight and have a strong local influence in the team. Because if I thought that in 10 years time, the club would still be following the same blueprint for failure, I would struggle to to find a reason to turn up every week.

Great post Neil, Thanks.

It is important that as an area, we need to keep up with the changes that are being made in the youth game across the country, so that we don't fall behind, therefore, schemes such as the performance centre are key to this. The centre has provided not just development for the kids but also a link between the club and local sides, which is vital for the future of the club and something which has been ignored for far too long. As mentioned previously, there is now a much clearer pathway for those kids to develop along and hopefully as a club we will see the benefits of the hard work put in by doc and his team.

It's also worth remembering that this is just part of a number of things being done to improve junior football, there are some excellent clubs and coaches out there, as well as school holiday programmes and after school clubs.
