This thread seems to have got slightly side tracked but I must point out one glaring error.
A Category Three Academy costs the club one hundred thousand pounds a season and the Football League contribute a further two hundred thousand pounds towards running costs , most lower league clubs have a Category Three status
A Category Four Academy will cost considerably less.
I'm very surprised the figure one million pounds a SEASON was quoted earlier. That's the sum it would cost to run a Category One Academy at clubs such as Liverpool.
Most lower league clubs don't own the three G facility they train on. They use a local facility. The Funding for the UEFA coaches, physio etc comes from the three hundred grand.
If Barrow got back in the League they could start an Academy and get Three status . The start up costs would be slightly more than one hundred thousand but not much more.
If it cost one million pounds a year to run a Category Three Academy no lower league clubs would be able to afford to run one. Some of those clubs don't even spend that amount a season on their first team squad.

Full marks to Paul Casson, you can't accuse him of not holding back on the spending front.
Floodlights: Rather than going for the cheaper let's replace option, he decides to, if reports are to be believed, spend one hundred thousand pounds more on maintaining what we've got.
Inside Soccer: He could so easily have set up his own school in competition to the Docs, let's face it most kids would have been more attracted to the official Barrow one but instead decides to buy Doc out. I bet Doc couldn't believe his good fortune.
Players: Walker, Livesey, Grand, all quality and all on long contracts.
New Board: New faces and some faces from the old regime, presuming the likes of Russ Dodd will be receiving payment of some kind.
Pitch: Looking at the pictures on the forum site the pre-season work won't have come cheap.
Paul Casson doesn't just talk the talk, he delivers the goods.
Excellent start Mr Casson, keep up the good work, for the first time in a long time Barrow look to be on the up.
Them were the days

That was the last time I got excited about new players . Cook, Walker, Livesey and Grand were massive signings for a CN team. Not been much to write home about since in the way of marquee signings. The likes of Diarra, Bennett and Williams turned out to be good but they weren’t established at this level when we signed them so no wow factor.

Regardless of the effectiveness since he has been here, Holty was certainly a marquee signing.
I would (unrealistically, I know) like our manager to stand the whole squad on the touchline at training and ask them to step onto the pitch if they want to be here at Barrow, if they want to put the effort into the games and if they want to show the fans that they have the guts and determination.
Now, more than ever, it is vital that we get the right captain in place. Where are the blood and guts captains like Jonah, Humey and McNulty? You did what you were told with these guys on the pitch.

I think the whole squad you talk about would be about 5 players at the moment

Have to say your one [SwearFilter] sad individual to be dragging a topic up from 4 years ago. I believe clowns like you,and there are many on here who kinda thrive on negative news like the football clubs recent statement. Casson came in billy big shot,we all know that, promising the earth to us the supporters,he hasn’t full filled many of these promises but if he hadn’t come in when he did the club would be in a far far worse place, maybe oneday you and others like you might take your foot off the criticism pedal and be grateful.

At the moment yes, but thankfully most of those will be moving/moved on. If they don't want to fight, let them go.

My own personal view is that Paul had delivered on realistic things, the keens couldn't have replaced the floodlights,I,m not going to mention the boiler
The statement looks like he wants to go back to as it was, which is fine but Paul set our expectation levels above this with talk of a stadium, all weather pitches etc and quite frankly looks as though clever managers and agents have robbed him blind and held our progress to ransome year after year

No one had an issue with agents when we sold players represented by them for a few hundred grand.

I think people started taking issue when they started posting on here and wafting transfer requests about.

Correct and nobody had an issue with Paul Cox when we were riding high in the upper reaches of the league. In fact, it was almost adoration on here! The fact is that ALL agents in professional football will get as much money for their players (and themselves!) as they can get away with and ALL managers will spend as much money on players (and themselves!) as they can get away with. It's up to the management of the club to be smart enough to say no to things that are over-budget and, at the end of the day, the management are responsible for running the club properly.
