Thanks for clarifying. I thought the figure of a million was a bit over the top! Phew! :D

Mad how an Fa Cup cup run can bring in nearly £800k somehow.

Didn't we have a huge thread on the fact the club lost nearly a million quid...??

We're merely fans of the club who pay the players wages.
Indeed.

Asda always consult me before changing their management structure.

Strange 1, I would be really shocked if the manager wasn't consulted but as a previous poster stated "we aren't dealing with football people with the Casson's". I can't see Cox being here much longer, it looks and sounds like he's getting pished off with the lack of support from the owner. He will be a massive loss.

If his contract didnt cost so much to buy out then he would be gone.

The article in the mail takes a certain spin to the appointment and asks certain questions

Hopefully Cox has okayed the situation though as this sort of thing (bringing people in over the manager -I'm thinking Newcastle united here in recent times) has a history of [SwearFilter] them off
That's exactly what I thought, as a Newcastle fan it smacks of when we created the "footballing board" and Graham Carr had the ridiculously long contract and complete control over transfers, I know its difficult to compare with Barrow but something doesn't quite sit right with these type of arrangements.

I was at the Fans Forum and Paul Casson mentioned it was less than the 990K loss from the previous season (maybe half) but I never heard this figure or any other figure actually mentioned. The FA Cup/Trophy prize money/extra matches and crowds will have generated income but we don't know what the wage bill was and how much was spent elsewhere and when.

I don't have any issue with Paul Ogden but was this really needed? It seems like this appointment of Ogden has been done without Cox's knowledge which is out of order if true as he is the one who should decide on who comes to the club. Granted Cox and Ogden work together but it seems Cox has less say now. The appointment and re-organisation should have been discussed with Cox so he's aware of it and any new roles and responsibilities as it directly affects him and how he does his job - Cox knows more about football than Casson.
The Casson's clearly have no idea about English Football and how things are done over here. Paul Cox is a good manager and we should be doing everything we can to keep him and not constantly undermine him by doing things like this.

Only guessing but would this role cement Paul Ogden's position within the club. If he remained as scout could he have upped sticks anytime?

Think you could be correct here.

Initially thought it was strange but reading between the lines, maybe it was initiated by Cox himself as he feels that Ogden can get more out of Casson than himself.

As others have said Cox seems exasperated and maybe feels Paul Ogden who has worked closely with Cox before Barrow, can be more diplomatic with Casson for the benefit of the club.

It seems there is a clear pro in keeping Ogden tied to the club. initially I worried that with Cox went Ogden, however this move dismisses that. I think Ogden is a massive asset a real footballing brain, and a bucket load of contacts - vital for a club at our level.

On the other hand, the relationship between Cassons and Cox seems to be at a real low point and this decision and that train wreck of an interview personifies this - and you can tell that cox is frustrated. I would think the knives will be out early if results don't go our way early doors. I would be very very surprised if Cox saw out the season which is a shame as he is by far and away the best, and most professional manager we have had for the last 2 decades.

Im uneasy about the club at present cox is a fantastic asset and everything should be done to keep him happy. I will wait till further in the season to judge the squad but to me looks weeker than last year. What happped to last years assistant manager has never been confirmed and sudden changes in key off field personal makes the me wonder what going on. Paul casson has saved the club and last season was a good year but the progress i thought we might make on and off the park dosent look happening i hope the paul ogden move does work for all parties involved

Cox likes spending money, he's been given a budget I would imagine and it's up to him how he spends it.

People are reading between the lines and making up what they choose to believe.

People say Cox is a good manager and I'm happy with him but he has had more resources than any manager in the history of Barrow AFC

Personally I think what has happened with Paul Ogden is peculiar for a club like Barrow. It's almost too "modern day corporate", and a role has been established for an astute football brain, who can obviously spot a player, which isn't needed at the moment or at all. If PC manager has requested that he gets some help in the sense of someone to carry out the role that PO supposedly now has, all well and good, though a little surprising. If not, as a manager, with a capable assistant, I'd feel pretty cheesed off that PO has been appointed into an important position that has some overlap into the duties of a manager.
A truly enigmatic situation.
