Re: New ground / renevation costs
It isn't that it's just we all end up getting frustrated and getting nowhere it's not that I don't care!
The positive is Tony Callister is now Mayor he cares about football /Barrow f.c. but it's all down to Paul Casson so unless he comes up with any detailed plan ( which he initially did) it's dead in the water !

Re: New ground / renevation costs
To be fair (and this has been said oft before) there was a stadium shown on the original dockland redevelopment scheme which had the plug pulled. The scheme has been re-started again (new access opening being built on Salthouse Rd) but looks like it will be a piecemeal affair being done in small work packages.
However, maybe one day they will build that stadium there and it will be up to the professional clubs in the town to make the decisions, keeping in mind the FBSS might be like Camp Nou by then.

We will foller the soccer, over land and sea...
Re: New ground / renevation costs
With the rise in attendance prices these days, where it usually costs too much to attend even the lower leagues' games, is it even feasible that we could survive in League Two, were we to even get there.
I don't mean to be doom and gloom but I wouldn't mind betting that once the original promotion euphoria died down (assuming we achieved promotion) we'd probably be looking at an average home gate of anywhere between 1800 and 2500.
Could we survive off that?

Who?
Thought they were still Non-League.
Apologies, just my own mind-set. I still have memories of OUR Reserve side playing Morecambe's first team in the Lancashire Combination. I've NEVER been able to get my head around Morecambe being EFL

Morecambe by the skins of their teeth though - lost another 500k the season before last. And last season saw the ownership debacle.HenneysKnee wrote: ↑Sun Sep 03, 2017 2:32 pmMorecambe and Accrington doShaun wrote: ↑Sun Sep 03, 2017 12:27 pm With the rise in attendance prices these days, where it usually costs too much to attend even the lower leagues' games, is it even feasible that we could survive in League Two, were we to even get there.

Re: New ground / renevation costs
Because at some point soon one or the other needs to happen. We can't carry on with the ground like it is. If it needs to happen soon it needs to be being planned now. Not that it is up to us but a debate as to the pros and cons of either can't hurt.
It is hard enough to remember my opinions, without also remembering my reasons for them!

Yeah; but the topic has been pulled out again and again.
It NEEDS to happen - I agree. But WILL it happen?

Re: New ground / renevation costs
I don't think we'd need anywhere near the amounts mentioned in the OP....even the lower one.
If it were my money
I think the first thing I would do is redevelop the Cross Bar end of the ground, that's the potential "Jewel in the crown" hotel/changing rooms/shop/corporate/offices (club use & rental)/bar and function room(s). The potential for the function room alone (if done correctly) is massive, I know this through simply being involved in the last three EOSD's, try booking somewhere decent nine months in advance....its crazy. Make a decent job of the car park behind the pop side and create a path connecting that to the hotel/function rooms for match day and hotel use.
Get shot of the old porta loo's and replace with decent toilet facilities.
The other areas of the ground can be brought up to scratch as & when needed (main stand extension) HSE demolished and re-built with a basic roof. There must be an argument for fitting in a bar, food outlets & toilet area at the HSE area of the ground as well.
All potential money earners, add to them a few tidying up jobs and we're well on the way to having a ground that we could be proud of for a fraction of the cost.
Easy when it's not our money though....

We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.
Re: New ground / renevation costs
I thought we couldn't build anything on the HSE because of the foundations? Surely it will cost a fortune to knock it down and re-do the foundations?

Re: New ground / renevation costs
A good hotel, conference facilities and function rooms would be a big asset to the town as a whole and would surely make the club more sustainable in the long term.spirit of 1990 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 03, 2017 4:34 pm I don't think we'd need anywhere near the amounts mentioned in the OP....even the lower one.

Just say no to VAR
Re: New ground / renevation costs
The cost would be substantial. Yes the new stadium would attract more fans and commercially be viable with facilities firms and public could buy into. Abbey house watch out.
This locality cries out for a decent football league club. Marketing needs vast improvement and further afield.
