Nothing wrong with the atmosphere against Aldershot it's up to the team to keep possession and pressure on teams to generate some reaction out of the fans !
As for the roof maybe but we've had cracking atmospheres Oxford league and cup Wrexham tranmere it depends on weather the occasion and as I said the players.

And it's also up to the fans to get behind the side when things aren't happening on the pitch. It works both ways. We are at our most vociferous when it feels like decisions are going against us and quite often with smaller crowds. We are often at our quietest when bigger crowds are in, expectations are higher and for some reason it just doesn't happen.

Aye.. Times I've looked forward to the "big games" or "bigger games" thinking a belting noise would be heard only for it to be like a damp Squibb..
I personally love two sets of supporters trying to out sing, chant etc for 90mins egging their team on..
Wasn't privvy to our football league days but I'm pretty sure the noise and atmosphere at hs would have been something else.. Maybe one day soon eh?

Roof on the holker end...no brainer..both sets of fans under there...ask our strikers if they would like it......fraction of the cost of what the crossbar end would cost...however wouldn't add much revenue to the club unless had its own food outlets either end....would enhance the ground appearance by loads and raise the noise levels...especially outside with the new housing estate

This. When the HSE roof was removed the atmosphere was taken away from HS, it’s just never been the same since. The noise from that end undoubtably gave players & fans a huge lift over the years.

I don't disagree the roof would improve matters (in terms of holding the noise in it's a no brainer) but it's very difficult to justify financially

Two of the seasons we had an Ultras group we tried to keep the noise going for 90 minutes at home. It was often down to about 4 of us during lulls in the game. People didn't respond to it. You can't keep any sort of beat because at barrow any sort of drum is viewed as anathema, and that's fine as some of them are unbearably naff.

Drink we tried meeting up more as a 'group' having music etc, might have worked at a different venue but at the time none did.

Where we stand and sing used to be a lot more people, four times the number. They have gone, to bring up kids, fed up, whatever. Whoever were the 16 year olds have moved, have been to Uni or in the yard/Sellafieled, still go to games but not all and not in the same manner. We are too old for the youth in the ground to stand with, or those who might have are banned, in some cases blaming other fans and certainly how the ground is policed. There is no culture for them to get behind, they show no signs of doing their own thing.

These forums are a welcome vehicle for older fans to blather on (I do it all the time) for a welcome return to when they feel the atmosphere was better, life was easier, there were less rules etc etc. And they are right. But it contributes the square root of nowt to solving the problem, as indeed does this thread.

Some good points ste. I think your spot on with the efforts of the ultras on occasions. I don't think folk appreciated the efforts put in but as you say folk move on.

I only really attend away games and find that the group (regulars) are more my cup of tea. Hence the beers and atmosphere. I'm not sure if anyone's mentioned it but I found the popular side were in general a negative impact on what we as the ultras tried to do. I can probably drag a few posts up moaning about restricting views etc but in general the players and management appreciated it, many other fans did not. Unfortunately a roof will only echo what's already happening. There's a reason we have great away support. They are all great folk who have fun and love it. I think many attendees at hs just like a moan.

The roof scenario gets mentioned a lot... and like Ste and others have mentioned, till its financially viable its going to be some time before we see the proverbial "LID"
How feasible would it be to have a small lean to type roof (LID) along the crossbar end?
Could this be an option for us guys who want to make some noise as a temporary solution?

The problem is as steve identifies in his post that there just isnt enough people making noise at holker street now a days. Things have changed

I have just watched the Barrow v Brentford game once more and the atmosphere at that game has never been surpassed. It was incredible. Young and old, everyone was on fire and up for it. Topless male fans in the freezing cold probably wished they WERE on fire.
The pitch was horrendous and just a mass of mud.
Annoying commentator calling Logan Carlo.
Paul Brown Man of the Match and rightly so----two wingers in operation made for a fantastic game.
A team of part timers that played their hearts out.
What a night.

I was unfortunately at the league games and it's more or less just like now I still think people's judgement gets clouded when they think of the roof being a difference because it all depends on a factor of things.
I think at the moment everyone is too tense to enjoy making a noise!
