This pie thing needs sorting once and for all.

I mentioned to the owner of Delish a while back how I wish we had some decent pies or any food for that matter. He said someone from the club had made enquiries years ago but he never heard anything back. This time of year there should also be 1 real ale stout. Just buy in a 4.5 gallon 'pin' so no waste, maybe even an urn of mulled wine. Doesn't cost much to do that. All part of that match day experience.

All down to current catering contractor.

How about selling pies outside the ground..but unsure of the rules and regulations in being able to do that though !

Thought the trust weren't allowed to compete with the existing caterers?

My immediate thought was the same as Mr Grey. Many other clubs manage to sell pies

I didn't say it wasn't possible, just that it wasn't feasible when the trust looked into it.

Given the facilities at Holker St, pie warmers would be needed which I believe were cost prohibitive.

I think it was also just the space in the shop, plus courses etc for food handling would have been a challenge.

However, if any Barrow fans out there would like to offer some expertise we could look at it again. The next meeting is on the 30th December at 11am at St George's School. They are open and any member (and we wouldn't turn any non members away) is welcome to attend.

While we are on the subject of the Trust, tickets and on this thread, one of the reasons we have upped this with support from the club is to get folk through the gate. We were asked to focus on this by members. It isn't our money or decisions ultimately driving this. We have rather become victims of our own success with the ticket giveaways, I thought it would work well this way but it has succeeded beyond my expectations- thanks to the Trust Board for backing me. The positive feedback through schools has been massive and the club has emerged with well deserved credit.

So the new year will have to see a big focus on improving the fundraising. I would only ask if folk consider buying an online lottery, buy a ticket from Russ, bits and pieces from the shop and support various events- I suspect I will be gearing up for Hitchhike 2 and there are a few larger gents including myself might well benefit from another sponsored slim. This is where the money, your money, for supporting these ticket initiatives comes from.

The world has truly gone bonkers when it's 'unfeasible' to get a load of pies to a football match where they would most certainly be bought and eaten, due to 'rules and regulations'. Pie maker + oven + van + person with tray strapped onto shoulders to walk around the ground. It's just easy.

We used to have a very basic kitchen. But the new bar made way for that. I remember the late Tony Jackman and his wife pulling pies out an oven some years ago for the reserves. Rules change for better or worse. Pie heaters or new caterers it would have to be. Until we have our own facilities I'd approach the likes of Delish or Hartley's so that they provide catering outside and inside. They can then use their name on a less scruffy caravan type facility outside and have their name up inside as well as part of a sponsorship package. They take responsibility for hygiene etc with their own staff as they would normally.

The football kicks off at 3.00pm. It lasts for 90 mins.
Now if you can't go without a pie during a game that lasts for 90 mins or so you're either:
Greedy
or
Starving.

Eat before the game if you're starving. It's called Lunch/Dinner.
Or buy a pie from Asda - it's close enough!

Being greedy or having eyes bigger than your belly is a different story...

Coincidentally, 450 is the exact number of threads (covering an extensive range of subjects) that have ended up talking about pies.

When the 3 Amigos (Roberto Martínez, Isidro Díaz and Jesús Seba) arrived at the up-and-coming Wigan Athletic in the 90s a photo shoot was arranged for them and they were asked to pose with pies in their hands. When prompted to take a bite Martinez refused indicating via an inerpreter that it would be crazy as he had no idea what might be in it. I thought at the time - he's absolutely right you could take a big bite and for all you know end up with a mouthful of (Cont. Pie 94)

That's the number of tickets to be given free to schools for Solihull game. Fantastic gesture. I started watching Barrow because of a similar free ticket given to me many moons ago. Just need the pies sorting and a nice coffee stout.

Would be excellent if it could be calculated what the actual conversion rate was,and which school achieved the highest ? Gives the club something to work with .

Pies are a football thing, not an Asda thing (for me). In days gone by there was even an article in the programme comparing pies at away games. So it's not just about home supporters pie experience either. Incidentally the best pie I had an away game was Blackpool wren rovers away. My notes tell me thin crispy pastry but a large filling full of potato and steak.
