Thanks all. So will cladding now be put up on the back side of each stand to hide the scaffold?
From the plans it appears so. This comes at an extra cost to the original plans
The original plans, passed before the season started, stated that cladding had to be added as part of the conditions.
The timetable for completing the cladding was end Aug.

Well, that's a surprise! NWEM is owned by Newsquest, the same company that owns my local paper the Northern Echo. The Echo also regularly has click bait headlines. Often, it's something sensational that might happen, but the last sentence tells you that, actually, it's very unlikely.
I have a suspicion that the Newsquest web sites' headlines are generated by an algorithm; clearly not by a person who has read the articles.
Not very 'intelligent', then.

Who'd of thought...?

Something in the mail today about us getting funding to make the two new stands permanent…..couldn’t read it though cos of constant pop ups and access to it. Anyone know more without needing the mails stupid site?
i know what you mean. Try to read anything and they block you unless you subscribe. I managed to read part of it and gained access to the 'Comments' section (always a laugh

) According to the person who made the one comment it looks like both stands are remaining with cladding due to be added.

You have to laugh really. Why do they think that anyone who reads stuff that is often ill-informed and badly written would be willing to pay for the pleasure.
Apart from generating articles by AI, I get the impression that much of the stuff is written by so-called journalists sitting at home and recycling stuff they pick up from social media without doing any investigation.

Yep, absolute non story, if anything I think the club were waiting on the council. It's all got to be in a certain order to release grant funding and it's hard to get the ducks in a row.

Pre-internet it seemed like every local household paid for a copy of the NWEM to be delivered. Looking back l suppose it was good value and then one of few sources of information for all things Barrow AFC. Nowadays it seems at best to be the modern equivalent of the long gone Advertiser. The Advertiser superseded The Gay Shopper of course.

Happening everywhere. Print sales falling dramtically. I saw that the Manchester Evening News daily circulation has dropped to just over 8000 from a six-figure circulation less than ten years ago when they adopted a 'digital-first stategy.
Ten years ago, the NWEM had a circulation greater than the current MEN figure. Publishers Newsquest seem to have subsequently withdrawn from the Audit Bureau of Circulation system.
The emphasis on subscriptions (print and digital) and attracting digital advertising seems likely to continue.

the article is mainly just a sensationalist headline aimed at getting people to read it - as per usual

If you copy and paste the url of this "story" or anything else from the Mail into this
https://12ft.io/
It removes the paywall. Unfortunately that means they get the advertising revenue from your click but after least you're not subscribing to the t***s

Personally I regret the demise of the newspaper. When I was growing up and when the match finished you came out of the ground and you bought the Pink Final with all the latest footballl results and this was in the days long before the internet with all.the fake news stories..I just wish life went back to how it was then.

I think Andrex and other super market brands put paid to its main use or was that just a smear campaign at the time.

There was a green sports paper on a Saturday that was delivered (yes, those were the days) on Saturday evening about 6pm, which had a full match report written, if I recall correctly, by Bob Herbert. This was particularly useful for away games, as I was normally at Holker Street for the home games.
This was in addition to the usual daily newspaper which arrived about 4pm on Saturday and included the half time scores in the 'stop press'.
The 'Pink 'un' was, I believe, the Lancashire Evening Post sports paper.
(Disclaimer: as often happens these days, my memory may be misleading)

Green sports paper brings back memories. In the sixties living in Stretford my grandad used to post the sports paper to me and if Barrow had been playing at home he put the match programme inside with a match report - I distinctly remember the programme for the Plymouth game in 1968- in my grandads report he said - and the ref scored the goal!! I always waited patiently for it on a Tuesday morning and devoured every word about Barrow from the reports - such a happy time.
In Manchester we had the football pink paper - another must read sports paper on a Saturday night. They always reported the away team on the front of the paper and the home team either on the back page or on pages 2 or 3. That's United or City or course. They were known to report the odd Barrow game when they were playing a Manchester based team like Stockport, Oldham etc - a double wammy for me!

I maybe wrong but I thought the The Pink Un and the Green Sports Paper were both printed by the Evening Mail. I thought the paper had started out as possibly Pink and then became the Green Sports Paper.
Does anyone know for sure ?
