Utterly useless Solihull keeper survives second half without single shot on goal from open play; Solihull dominate battle in the air,Jordan White and Asa Hall go missing; injured Yusseff replaced by palpably unfit Cockerline. Gomis immense again; Fears that novice referee would do us no favours proved positive as Solihull play him like a fiddle; Repeated rolling of two balls onto the pitch at throw-ins used in bizarre time wasting tactic by the "Mighty Moors"; Claims that referee is a homer dashed in favour of referee is just plain useless after extremely dubious penalty awarded to save blushes in 96th minute. Moussa Diarra nominated for freedom of Barrow for refusing to relinquish possession whilst charging into opposition penalty area before collapsing like shot giraffe (NB. He did exactly the same in virtually the same spot last season with the same outcome). Rather angry scenes at full-time whistle between fans questions wisdom of no segregation; Cox embraced in passionate post-match clinch by irate fans.

Just about sums it up.
Pretty much spot on summary. In all honesty we looked comfortable in the first half without really playing well but we might as well have stayed in the dressing room after half time. Disappointingly today I thought we let ourselves get bullied by Solihull a little and they "managed" the referee very well especially skipper Darren Carter who himself could have been sent off twice and was constantly backchatting to the officials. He did however lead his side tremendously well in the face of adversity. Contrast that to Asa Hall who was yet again invisible and I saw none of the qualities an on-field leader needs. Heads went down following the red card and first Solihull goal and the body language from most was appalling.

Moussa an absolute hero till the end and single handedly battled through 4 challenges to win the penalty - he would just not give up. Gomis not far behind in his superhuman efforts again with Harvey also excellent until he was inexplicably hooked. Elsewhere Jones (superb free-kick aside) was given a torrid time by a talented Moors winger and Barthram fared little better. Nieskens looked shaky at times and Dunne seemingly let himself get wound up by the amount of holding, elbows and other shenanigans that the officials let go at corners - he needs to learn quickly. White almost as ineffective as Hall and Cockerline at least a yard off the pace. As others have said well done to Harry P for a calmly taken penalty.

Never a dull moment at Damson Lane and if my maths is correct then that is 19 goals I have seen there in our last 3 visits. Make no mistake though that this was a poor quality game and I suspect we are finding our level in mid table having just played two teams I expect to be in the bottom half and possible relegation scrap come April. We need Yussuf back for Saturday v Dover and we need to revert to 4-4-2 or maybe even 4-5-1. The quicker we unite Yussuf and Harrison the better but it won't be until next month at least I am guessing. I fear a heavy beating at Dover but at least the pubs there are good.

10 men or not I thought it was very poor defending for all 3 Solihull goals.

Moussa did brilliantly to win that pen he just wouldn't give up on the ball.

Very disappointing result considering how easy it was in the first half we looked really comfortable until the sending off then we were all over the place.

I think we will be pushing top half of the table should we have the Harrison before the Lincoln injury and hopefully Fitzpatrick can improve us when hes back.

Need to win those games so there is less pressure on beating the likes of Tranmere, Wrexham and Leyton Orient.

Sat 5th: Dagenham & Redbridge 2 - 1 Barrow AFC
Tue 8th: Barrow AFC 0 - 0 FC Halifax Town
Sat 12th: Woking (H)3-0
Tue 15th: Solihull Moors (A)3-3
Sat 19th: Dover Athletic (A)
Sat 26th: Maidenhead Utd (H)
Mon 28th: AFC Fylde (A)

Playing 3 of the 4 of the newly promoted teams in the first month should mean points on the board.Add to that 2 sides who you'd think will be down there come the end of the season in Woking and Solihull.
You'd hope for a draw against Dover on Saturday. If wins aren't picked up in these games then you've got to wonder where to points will come from throughout the rest of the season without mega changes.

1 win from those first 4 fixtures is not a good start.
Par for the course would be two wins, a draw and a defeat I would say so we are slightly down. Anything against Dover at the weekend will be a bonus but we need three points v Maidenhead so someone is going to have to do a job on Tarpey.

Didn't Cox say last season that he was always a slow starter. The change in personnel is never ideal but that is non league football for you if you get a good bunch of players together.

Either way, we have points on the board and there are definite signs of the players gelling so glass half full at the moment.

We always beat the top teams at home (Lincoln, Tranmere last season) so we'll be top half no problem. Makings of a decent side which is there for all to see....to those that actually go that is.

You are a very depressive fellow aren't you................yes I know it is realism, blah blah blah.

In a league like the conference it will be around the 10 games before we can truly judge and even then there will be highs and lows that will impair our judgement. I can't comment too much as I have only been able to listen to the Halifax game so far but I do like some of what I am reading on here, so as mentioned I am keeping my glass half full at this time.
Not really. Just saying what is there to be seen thats all. No point saying Barrow AFC will win the royal rumble and win the belt at Wrestlemania if it won't happen. Got to be realistic/"depressive".
That is a fair point, if people had been saying that we are going to win the league, etc. There is an inbetween area that is probably the most realistic of them all and that is where, I think, most fans stand. There has been a lot of constructive thought and discussion over the state of the team and in the majority I would say that it has been realistic in the sense that we are still not there yet but there are many positives to be seen.

I would be fairly content with challenging again, even if we fell short of promotion or even a play-off place but what we do need to see this season is that we have generally improved on last season. Nobody can judge that this early but we can go on what we have seen and as you have not been to any games (unless you lied to us and are still a Barrow match going fan) and I haven't then I will leave it to those who have, to give the real analysis, and I will judge it on that.

My judgement is that it is neither overly positive or overly negative, we are still adjusting to an overhaul of players and we are only 4 games into the season with some very positive feedback on some of the individuals and some less positive feedback on others.

I suppose that was the long winded way of saying you may or may not be right.

Back on the main topic, sounds like it was 2 points dropped last night (given the 2 goal lead) and people may say that it was against a team that are going to be at the wrong end of the table but sometimes these are the hardest to play against away from home as they know that home form is the key part of staying up.

Someone should really tell Paul Casson, not too long ago he was telling two mates of mine that they are aiming to win the league this season. He has a knack of saying that the club will get promoted from the National League. All falls flat and looks a bit silly come early summer the following year.

I havn't attended a Barrow game this season and won't all year. I dont like the feel of the place. Everyone seems to be fighting over who gets the closest to PC on a matchday. Full of hangers on.

Something just doesn't add up about it all.

This is why we have a forum, its great for debate and exchange of opinions. Just gets a bit silly when people who have lost an argument before its begun resort to name calling and bizarrely suggesting what a poster does on their Saturdays instead.

In terms of where we are and what sort of start teams have had I could just as easily have mentioned Tranmere, Eastleigh, Hartlepool, Orient and Maidstone who will be unhappy this far. On the flip side Aldershot, Sutton, Borehamwood, Maidenhead and Bromley will be overjoyed. As always there are loads of unexpected results in this league. The teams and players are often where they are because of their levels of inconsistency.

Tranmere are an interesting direct comparison as they have beaten Woking (like us), lost to Sutton at home (we lost to Daggers away)and then they have drawn away to two likely struggling sides who haven't got a win between them yet (Torquay and Guiseley) failing to score in either match. These last two games not too different from our Halifax and Solihull efforts.

Has anyone worked out why we left two strikers on when Dunne was sent off yet?

A strange decision. Could have taken White off as he didn't seem to be effective at all. Still not sure about him.

Probably hoping by leaving two up front that Solihull would be less likely to commit players forward.
Seen it done many times.

I'm aware of that, I remember a Ron Atkinson team once losing a defender to a red card and he brought a third forward on and won.
Cox made a choice it didn't come off on this occasion.
