This month Barnet sold a 21-year-old midfielder to Peterborough for £500k (plus add-ons). If that’s a rough guide, some of our younger players could be worth a fair bit.

Having made the move to west Cumbria a few years ago, me and the lad make the trip for each home game. It really isn't as bad as some people make out. It isn't like you're crossing the Himalayas is it? An hour max. It's not much better travelling to Carlisle to be honest. I've never met anyone who supports a team based on its transport links.
As for them losing a few casual fans to us. Well, if you want to watch live, entertaining football round here you have to travel. Much of a muchness whether that be Barrow or Carlisle distance wise. Other than the Workington diehards, most follow Liverpool these days (United shirts seem to be getting less and less, wonder why?
).
I would say you might get a few start making the trip but not in the numbers being talked about on the Carlisle forum. The best thing for us is that the people of Barrow and the surrounding areas are starting to get involved in numbers. Keeping that going is the priority. If a few disillusioned Carlisle/Kendal etc. fans want to get involved after that then great

In all seriousness Barrow Raiders used to come to Cartmel school and do training sessions during P.E then give out free tickets for games to them and some of the primary schools in the area (Flookburgh, Grange, Allithwaite etc) but you never really see anything from the football. Perhaps next time we have one of the games we let schools in for free the ticket offer could be extended geographically?

Don't forget Millom in that list. There's been a lot of interest from people in the town recently. Alongside quite a few regulars from there.

I’ve been travelling from Kendal for the 5 years, lately not as much due to work/child etc but I know plenty of heads in Kendal that would make the journey but won’t cause off travel costs etc. Few lads came through when Niall was playing... maybe the club should look at putting buses on to the outer regions of barrow and drag in the punters

Would this be a high mileage Mini Ian? I have found one in Northwich but its a Cooper S for £5995 and its got 60k on the clock. That sounds a little high spec for the one that you had in mind.
That's not a realistic offer is it and suggests that whoever made it must be to some extent desperate. If it were a League club that made it, it really does illustrate how dire things must be at the wrong end of L2 for some clubs and re-enforces the view that some NL clubs have far more buying power.
It does however beg the question - how much are our "alpha" players actually worth? As far as I'm aware we actually paid no fee for the likes of Quigley, Rooney, Angus or Kay. So any transfer value would be created during their time with us. Somebody mentioned Jack Taylors move from Barnet to Peterborough for half a mill earlier - though Taylor it appears had been groomed for this for some time and it may be that the Posh were always going to get him as long they coughed up a premium fee. Jack Taylor however is in his early 20s so has a long career ahead.
How much Oldham paid for Danny Rowe - 30 years old and 6 months left on his contract remains "undisclosed". Informed opinion however would suggest that a realistic guess would be somewhere between £75k and £100k - also taking into account offloading his inflated salary.
I'm not suggesting for one moment that we would want to offload any of our squad at this time. But for example Quigley looks to me like he'd have a six figure value at the moment. His age and current contract would make it very difficult to prise him away for less.

Those wanting to attend for the various outer reaches of the Furness Peninsula should car share or Millom/Haverigg have the Train as an option, Same for Flookburgh/g-o-s/Cartmel etc.
Be great to attract more support from these areas & the club going into those area schools deffo should happen a few times per season giving tickets out to kids to be accompanied by paying adults.

The schools are certainly an area to look at. Up this way Workington have reds in the community and do a bit around the schools, even as far out as the likes of seascale and gosforth. That's the main point here. It's not just in the immediate vicinity of workington. It certainly gets the kids aware of the club, even if gates there are very low at the moment. The lad is quite enjoying flying the blue flag amongst his reds following friends in school
even just contacting schools around the likes of millom/grange/cartmel etc. to make them aware of the under 12's free with an adult offer could raise the profile of the club among the youngsters who could be the next generation of ultras.
