GOING UP
Re: GOING UP
I have been an avid reader of the forum since its inception, and been impressed by the quality of the contributions, but I have not posted until today. However, this is an occasion that needs to be recognised.
Many, many thanks to Ian Evatt, the team, the directors, the staff, the volunteers and all connected with the club for creating a togetherness which has not been seen for many a day.
I remember the awful moment in 1972, living in Wales, and being stunned; then the long exile and 'troubles' with some owners; it was the near liquidation then rescue by the Keens that turned my wife into a 'keen' (sorry) supporter. After nearly half a century promotion is sweet and somewhat emotional.
Stand out moments for me, this season, have been the Sutton match when the injuries to Granite and Taylor invoked an emotional reaction from us spectators that was palpable; the Torquay match with Quigley's brilliant goal to justifiably win the match; the imperious win at Notts Co. to go top; and, of course, the win at Fylde in front of 1,200 Barrow fans - what a way to start the year !
I look forward to the enhanced Holker Street, to the short drive to the Universe Megadome, and can hardly believe we will be going to Bolton Wanderers to play in a league fixture.

Re: GOING UP
Probably that is what they did for the back page as I guess the news came through tight against the deadline for evening printing (up in Glasgow IIRC) to be passed to Menzies for overnight distribution with the dailies ready for morning sale.Yanto wrote: ↑Thu Jun 18, 2020 4:11 pm pjdaly, that would probably be because the news came through too late to do too much and make the deadline for todays edition. Any other paper would have had everything ready to go the day before at the latest so all they needed to do was "push a button"
Lets see what they serve up tomorrow.

Re: GOING UP
Congratulations to all at Barrow. I'm old enough (sadly!) to remember when you were voted out of the league. Enjoy your promotion, and well done to ex-QPR man Ian Evatt! Pete, QPR fan.

Re: GOING UP
Got to say for me, a lot of this came about because of Paul casson and the money he put in, so from my point of view a massive thank you, as before he came along I didn't believe, I did once he came, and correct me if I'm wrong but was it not Andrew casson who made him our manager, thank you Paul, both casson and Hornby x

Send some young buck up on the stand roof to wave it around like someone from Les Mis.
The revolution is here and now.

Got the base plate for said flagpole in the boot of my car, anyone out there drive a forty foot trailer then it can be there in a heartbeat.

Fred Else played for Blackburn for several seasons before dropping down the League. Didn’t he go on to be a School teacher after he retired from football? Colin Appleton was a decent player who played for Leicester in the old 1st Division and had a decent Managerial career after he retired from playing.
Respectable crowd at the game, 5,500-odd.
Post-COVID, what sort of gates do you think you will get back in the Football League? The average away attendance will obviously increase which should help with the finances.
Fred Else, who was a first-rate 'keeper, did indeed go into teaching locally after leaving football.
Hard to guess what attendances might be once the first flush of warm autumn afternoons and evening games has passed. As you will remember from your time here, there can be the odd breeze and it does rain a little from time to time... Naturally, performances and results will have an effect. At the end of the season, I would be very happy if the average attendance was 2850 plus.
I note that you were disappointed by Barrow's evening offer when you were here. Out of interest, beyond the pubs, restaurants, cinema, walks, fitness clubs and swimming, what would you have hoped to find?
Whilst I never felt inclined to take up a Gym membership at Fitness First or to go for a swim in Morecambe Bay, there are a number of decent options in and around Barrow in the evening. I think it’s probably more to do with working away from home on your own, the evenings can drag a bit. I’m not really a drinker, so the Pub is not much of an option for me on my own but when there were a few of us, we did have a couple of good evenings in Jefferson’s in Duke Street.
I occasionally went out for meals with some of the BAE and MoD lads and we had some good evenings in places such as the Indian down the bottom of Dalton Road, out at Rampside in Clarke’s and a couple of other places. I mostly stayed in the Imperial and that was quite nice as well. Hollywood Retail Park is also a good option at night with The Vue Cinema and the various food options there.
If they have the time to look around the town, I think a lot of visiting fans will be pleasantly surprised when they visit Barrow next season.
Re: GOING UP
Thanks for the reply. I just wondered if you might have had suggestion for a missing offer in the town centre where there are currently some relatively inexpensive properties available to rent/buy - opportunities for young entrepreneurs, perhaps.
