If you were a ref with players screaming at you, would you be more inclined to change your decision or book them? In over 50 years of watching football I've never seen a ref change a decision because a player challenged it. I have, however, seen many a player booked for doing so.John_Bucks wrote: ↑Mon Jan 01, 2024 4:44 pmOR we might get a decision once in a while. That’s two games now the ref has bottled a red card.

Re: Wrexham AFC (A) match thread
Started brilliantly. Great away support. Best noise in a while. Injury knocked us out of our stride. Still kept them at arms length. Decent equaliser and it went down hill from there. White looked like he was fouled 3 times before their free kick. Not sure who should have been on Fletcher from corner but that was that. Mad 5 mins in the injury 15 added. 2nd half the thug Maclean got away with another shocker. Ref have us nowt, but we were soundly beaten and it was damage limitation. Lads got good applause at end and they deserved it. No lack of effort but a distinct lack of quality in final third. Role sleeves up and move on. Might be an incoming striker wise and one out or so I've heard. Not warmed up yet either.

Difficult day after a good start.
We did our usual well but then imploded. They are decent and absolutely beat us up on the end.
Some of the support need a wee bit of realism. We are all frustrated but look where we are!
Fingers out for Sutton and Notts County. Still 4th, played most of the harder games, let's be at it

This is why Wrexham were allowed more than the regulation 5 substitutes.SayitagainSam wrote: ↑Mon Jan 01, 2024 8:18 pmAccording to live text on BBC, Barrow had 2 substitutions due to injury (concussion) and 5 subs were used in total (6 on bench).
But there is NO mention that any Wrexham players were substituted for injury and 6 subs were used in total (7 on bench).
I thought only max. 5 subs were allowed, but don't know the rule details, Adam will know.

You are of course correct about that, but I just think the lads let things go too easily.olefogey wrote: ↑Mon Jan 01, 2024 8:35 pmIf you were a ref with players screaming at you, would you be more inclined to change your decision or book them? I did think in real time that the clash with Stephenson looked like a forearm smash.

No we should have booted him round the pitch instead.Methuselah wrote: ↑Mon Jan 01, 2024 8:24 pm I was just wondering if our club should prosecute McClean for assault seeing that the ref failed to intervene. After all didn,t a Barrow player get sent to prison a few years ago for assaulting a Bristol player in a match. Our players need protecting which they haven,t been in the last three games. There must be ample video evidence to look at.Perhaps if the referees and their association isn,t prepared to do anything we should look at an alternative route. It may make them realise that they have to get their act together.
It,s only a suggestion for comments but something definitely needs doing when opposition players are getting away with thuggish behaviour which outside in the street would certainly lead to a prosecution.
Thoughts please.

Re: Wrexham AFC (A) match thread
A harsh lesson today taught by a side a million miles from where we are
Not an excuse by any means as they were ruthless but im getting extremely fed up of officials “giving players the benefit of doubt” when on yellow cards - twice now in this festive period that has happened. If it’s a yellow card offence then give the correct punishment regardless if it means you’ll have to send them off. (That being said I’ve never seen a player avoid TWO red cards and then be able to be substituted before)
Still 4th - still in a good position, we live we learn and we hopefully grow
Glad to hear Worrall has been released from hospital, and that Luca was able to travel home with his family
And on a side note it was fantastic to work with Nick Anderton this afternoon. Great that he’s looking well and wanting to get back involved in football

Agreed. McClean, as well documented previously, is a ghastly human being. Thankfully not our problem.Adam29 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 01, 2024 11:09 pm Not an excuse by any means as they were ruthless but im getting extremely fed up of officials “giving players the benefit of doubt” when on yellow cards - twice now in this festive period that has happened. Agree. could do with bringing in someone of that ilk that will shout for decisions every time etc. add another winger / full back and I think we are there for a good play off push.

Re: Wrexham AFC (A) match thread
Could be wrong here but fairly sure because the ref booked McClean that decision stands regardless (and of course if anything did happen any retrospective action is only of benefit to wrexhams future opponents not ourselves anyway…) Was same when Duffus got his head booted away at Stockport; was clearly a red but video evidence couldn’t do anything because the ref had booked the offender. Oh and mentioning prosecuting him is peak forum madnessMethuselah wrote: ↑Mon Jan 01, 2024 8:24 pm I was just wondering if our club should prosecute McClean for assault seeing that the ref failed to intervene.
