Carlisle United vs Barrow AFC Match Thread
Re: Carlisle United vs Barrow AFC Match Thread
I think there is a growing realisation that the days of slick passing football out from the back has gone.

Teams know the crack now they will press us deep , then going long in a team full of players that are poor in the air we will really struggle feel very low meself after that that forst half was identical to that newport collapse and it is deeply concerning
All opinions expressed are my own , not here to cause kick off just enact debate.

Re: Carlisle United vs Barrow AFC Match Thread
It should be pretty obvious by now just how important Rooney was to Barrow. Without him we have nobody who can control a game, beat players in midfield or put a defence splitting pass through. Sadly, we have got nowhere near replacing him and now have a midfield much inferior to last season. As others have said we also need another good forward and we could have got Toure for nothing. If we don't rectify those 2 positions it's going to be a season of Barrow nil! On the bright side, Brough got better as the game went on, Beadling was steady in central defence and Josh Kay looked lively when he got on the pitch. I'm afraid Angus might struggle against League 2 defenders and Quigley is going to get very frustrated if he doesn't get in the game.

I hope that most of us are wrong on DD but he needs to prove us wrong and I can’t see that happening.
We are so naive it is untrue. This is a big boys league and we can’t keep approaching games in this fashion.
We have to mix it up more. Yes keep trying to play football but be more direct in the last third.
We have lost our playmaker and not replaced him. There is a complete lack of cutting edge. This could be a long old season. DD was a risk having done most of his coaching at youth level and little or nothing as a manager. I have coached at youth level and I see a lot of what he is trying to do - but this is the football league and we’ve waited a lifetime to get back here and we don’t want to f**k it up at the first time of asking. Worried Bluebird.

There is no way we should be poor in the air if we have James Jones, Matt Platt and Patrick Brough playing together. My main worry is that we won't have enough possession in midfield and will be under pressure too much. None of Mike Jones, Beadling or Biggins have much pace and we seem to be constantly second to most things in midfield.PerthBluebird wrote: ↑Sat Oct 03, 2020 5:23 pm Teams know the crack now they will press us deep , then going long in a team full of players that are poor in the air we will really struggle feel very low meself after that that forst half was identical to that newport collapse and it is deeply concerning

I am not giving up yet. It was poor until the sending off, but we did try to move the ball quicker and play some football to feet in the second half, so at least they learned something from the first half. Most of players who offer hope are ones from last season: Barry, Brough, Hardcastle, Quigley, Kay. I would add the two Jones's from the new signings, then we have Platt to come back in and Ntlhe.
I worry about the tendency to play hoofball though. Is that really playing to instructions or is it lack of confidence?
Lack of firepower is the glaring problem. If we concede a goal, you don't feel much confidence in chances of coming back. We have to believe that Dunn is working hard to bring in a striker who will make a difference.
Still time for the team to settle and for better players to come back from injury. As the saying goes - let's see where we are after 10 or 12 games.

Not any part of that 113 mins was any good. Hoof ball in the first half, passing sideways and backwards in the second half against 10 men. They would'nt have scored against A St Trinians IX. So So upsetting to see this after last season.

Very poor but plenty of time to put things right, I feel that we have some good players and good management
Manager was very honest on the radio about the game

Re: Carlisle United vs Barrow AFC Match Thread
Very difficult to watch that. From last season we are used to seeing the ball pinging about to players in space, and when not in possession a determined effort to close down and win the ball back. Didn’t see any of that today. Yes, it’s early days but haven’t seen anything to be optimistic about in the four games I’ve watched so far. Dunn may have a lot of football knowledge and be well connected, but he needs to get the team playing. Otherwise there is a danger that a fan base recently used to success will turn against him, because he is a poor communicator and frankly comes across in interview as a bit thick. I hope I eat those words sooner rather than later. Worryingly for us their individual players looked superior to ours, irrespective of team play.

Re: Carlisle United vs Barrow AFC Match Thread
When I post I try to find the positives but I can't after that dire performance. We were outplayed in the first half by a side whose only other points had come against a Southend United Youth Team and then we still can't break them down for thirty minutes when they're reduced to ten men. In fairness we were lucky Brough also didn't get his marching orders, I think Angus is far too lightweight, it's like watching a youngster play in adult football for the first time. As for poor discipline, the amount of needless bookings and arguing with the referee, when it's our time we were wasting, was embarrassing. Newport away was poor but this was worse because Newport will finish the campaign miles ahead of our Cumbrian neighbours. I know we started last season off badly but you sensed there was some type of game plan, so far I haven't seen one. Would loved to be proved wrong and we start to find some purpose.

Re: Carlisle United vs Barrow AFC Match Thread
Not sure why Beadling is getting a free pass - he's crap. Bullied by their forwards all first half. How was Angus getting praised too? Looks like a little boy trying to run past some of the big guys at the back in this division. Brown may have been man of the match last week, but he was so bad today that there's no way he'd be in the team next week if Jones didn't get crocked.
Carlisle weren't great, other than Kayode being a powerhouse and Toure taking the [SwearFilter] out of our defenders. Just shows how bad we were today.
I'm guessing Gribbin is getting bombed off soon too?

Re: Carlisle United vs Barrow AFC Match Thread
We just drill the ball high all the time the fluid passing is gone hardcastle is fast and angus is id class biggins the same no snail either. Its not the speed its effective sharp passing and dictating the game where rolling the ball around aimlessly the teams we ve played so far its straight to the point pass pass and in. This fantasy of league 2 not being that different to national league is definitely not the case I've said that myself eating my words. Why kay did nt start today I dont know.russell_anderson wrote: ↑Sat Oct 03, 2020 5:28 pmThere is no way we should be poor in the air if we have James Jones, Matt Platt and Patrick Brough playing together. Re: Carlisle United vs Barrow AFC Match Thread
Yes we were poor but can we afford many more players of the standard needed ? if we were not in the pandemic I suspect maybe 4 or 5 of the squad from last season would not have been retained. Survival in the league and the club is the upmost priority I think DD will get it right. We were on the slide before the league was called off as teams had worked us out. Better players in this league won’t give us the time we had last season. Quigs Kay Brough need game time on Monday hopefully platt will be back soon

Re: Carlisle United vs Barrow AFC Match Thread
That was shocking.
Too many poor players....
Cutting edge has gone and we have no one to control the game.
High balls into box and we cant win a header...
Stop signing bloody defenders and give us someone up front or someone creative in midfield to play alongside Lewis
