Re: Barrow v Walsall match thread
Can you blame them after the last few weeks and not a win in sight?

Re: Barrow v Walsall match thread
I was just thinking that the forum was remarkably upbeat considering the team have zero wins from 11 games.
Re: Barrow v Walsall match thread
I like to concentrate on the positive side of the game, things are improving, it's a learning curve, from what I've seen so far we will be ok. We need a stable starting 11, it will come.

Can take some positives out of today. We're improving gradually. 5 teams below us in the table so evidently we're not the only ones having a bad start.
Plenty of games to go. No need for anger or doom mongering.

Not much to fear in this league yet we've failed to even look like winning a game, struggled to score and struggled to keep a clean sheet.EHB wrote: ↑Sat Oct 24, 2020 6:23 pm Disappointing result in the end but I’m feeling a bit more positive this last week or so, since the Carlisle game anyway.
From what I’ve seen we aren’t a million miles away it’s discipline and stupid fouls That are costing us deeply. If we just cut out silly free kicks in the final third we will win games.
Hird I thought did well but he is a walking goal. Platt brough Dixon and solid and steady. Taylor thought played well again without doing anything exceptional.
Biggins I think has potential definitely has a decent right foot. Just needs to click for him.
James excellent best game for us.
Not much to fear in this league. My worry is we’ve drawn three games we should have won. That’s 6 points we might struggle to find later in the season. Especially as our away games will build up.
We won’t go down. But it will be close enough

Yep. Probably our best performance of the season. I think we'll be ok. Win one then a shedload will follow.

We should be enjoying being In the football league, just relax and enjoy hold our nerve settle in. If Dover had not saved us we would probably still be in conference north or worse
The bottom two probably wont even go down anyway
Re: Barrow v Walsall match thread
There was not a lot wrong with that. I thought we passed it well and there were some good individual performances, some of the criticisms of some players on here are a little harsh. I thought Walsall were decent. Looking back at all are home games Stevenage were the weakest team we've faced. That late equaliser we conceded against them seems to have affected us as we continue to concede goals at crucial times in games. I feel we've competed well in all our home games the concern now is we have a couple of away games coming up and the Newport, Carlisle and Harrogate games have shown we haven't looked the same side away from home.

Josh Kay had stomach cramp that's why he came off and Connor Brown replaced him.

Mansfield away on Tuesday night, then Bradford City at home on Saturday, so not 2 away games.Ace wrote: ↑Sat Oct 24, 2020 8:00 pm There was not a lot wrong with that. Brough - few errors going forward but ok
Platt - one bad error but didn't lead to a goal (our best defender)
Hird - not convinced and almost cost us another goal - not sure why he was captain tbh
Kay - spells of greatness in attack but defence looks awful
J.Taylor - spells ok but made few bad decisions esp penalty
M.Jones - very quiet today
Biggins - doesn't look like scoring, few good things but hes just not convincing me he should start
Barry - good in attack but pass back king !
Angus - great at penalties, good runs but never wins headers, easily pushed off the ball
James - probably best game, cost us the 1st equaliser with a poor clearance bust good goal for him and runs his socks off.
Brown for Kay ? Wtf is that all about, surely we could put someone else there ? C.Tylor did ok but came on pitch way to late but should have scored in last minute. No idea why Gribbin not getting a game??? Anyone ? Played great against Leeds and is attacking threat but doesn't seem to get on the pitch. We played better thsn some of the games previously but errors are costing us.
Kay looked like he'd picked up an injury and/or was taken off as a precaution against making it worse.
Biggins looked a bit better today - but if Hardcastle still isn't fit on Tuesday i might play Gribben instead of Biggins at Mansfield.
Yeah Dixon ! - I've had a long day haha

Re: Barrow v Walsall match thread
Much better today but two avoidable mistakes once again cost us dearly.
Considering that will have been on paper a weaker team than what is considered our strongest 11 we competed very well, some good moves and James best game for us by a country mile, topped off with a cracker of a goal. I wonder whether James is now in DDs thoughts as a better option than Dior to play alongside Quigs when fit, plus a fresh Dior Angus coming on later in games would be a handful for tiring defenders.
On today’s showing there’s definitely light at the end of the tunnel, we just need to try and cut out avoidable individual mistakes.

We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.

That was a decent performance, we are getting there. All 5 home games drawn - it's worth noting that in the 1966-67 promotion season the first 5 home games were 4 draws and a defeat.
