Have the club actually said that? I suppose it is a logical position to take if your under threat of having players poached.

Either way, not sure alerting other clubs is such a concern these days. If a player does go elsewhere on media/press comments then we are probably better off without them in the long run. In the past we would have seen it as a big miss, but it was only because we couldn't give a similar/decent wage, etc. The club was on a downer and was always going to struggle to get better players on board. Thankfully it is less likely theses days than in the past, for a player to be stolen from right under our nose.

I think that under Mr Casson and Edmo the club rations announcements in an attempt to increase interest at a time of their choosing. The club might not like it, but if Radio Cumbria (or other press, NWEM) reveals something before time then it is on them and not the club.

The press revealing stories ahead of time is not much different from what goes on at every other club. The press make statements of so called fact, only for some of them to be contradicted by the club/player when they are ready to talk about it. The higher up you go the less likely clubs seem to respond ahead of the press, probably because they get more press attention. Something that is not likely to change for Barrow.

Then how does Radio Cumbria or the NWEM get its info? Someone from the club surely tells them.

How about putting that info on the official site first? , so the site becomes updated more and after a while it becomes the place to go for such news.

Whether it comes out from the mail, radio cumbria or us.

Yes, the information is ultimately coming from those involved or those close to it, some will likely be at the club.

I'm not overly concerned that the official website does not publish first. Like I said previously, it's not any different from other clubs (or any other walk of life for that matter) and I doubt that Barrow can break the mould and be different.

It can be very difficult for some to keep quite about things. Even people under the official secrets act spill the beans from time to time. The club does not have control over what others do with these snippets of info. Also it can be a bit hit and miss 1+1=2 or maybe 1+1=3.

Trying to counter misinformation in the press by giving the whole story out doesn't always work either. I recall Brian Keen saying that sometimes they did talk to the press ahead of time to help publicise something or coordinate press releases, but ultimately they had no influence over when they might print/broadcast it. They would sometimes go early with the story or not at all. Not quite the same as putting it on the official site first but what he said does demonstrate how uncooperative the press can be, they are after all a completely different organisation driven by different goals.

Remember the incident with Macclesfield a few years ago when their PR team had the manager on Sky TV and press statements in national newspapers. I think it was Brian/Tony Keen that told us the press didn't even speak to us and that these recent ex-league sides still had much larger staff with dedicated press officers. Maybe staffing is the problem.

It is still early days for Mr Casson's Barrow AFC and he is still learning. There is a lot going on at the club (and it will continue for a good few years) and not enough people to deal with it all. At such a busy time dedicated press people might improve things and get info out there quicker (or first). It was mentioned on BBC RC last night that Barrow are not doing a Crawley or Fleetwood, by throwing obscene amounts of money at the problem. They were talking about the team but it applies to the whole business, we have some pennies but we are not trying to pay over the odds by expanding the staff at a time when it is not the most important thing. Getting the ground right is an absolute priority at the moment and I'm sure attention will be drawn to these other things it time, if not already. I'm sure as the club grows Mr Casson will likely develop this side of things.

I`m sure there must be plenty of people around here who are/have studied media surely we coulid advertise for someone to cover this because even if someone did it for expenses only they could put it on their c.v. no excuses here sorry! (i know this isn`t the thread but had to answer!)

Disappointingly AFC’s commercial, organisational and media profile is as bad as ever it was despite having people in place who are supposed to be dealing with such matters. Conversely Barrow RL’s activities in these fields seems to be quite good, so perhaps the merger to make the club ‘sustainable’ is going to happen faster than we think. After all with two sets of staff at the joint venture, that would mean redundancies.

We tend to focus on the minutiae and what affects us most as supporters on a day-to-day basis, but I wonder what the big picture is? Maybe PC will get us into the FL, make the club ‘sustainable’ via the merger and then ride off into the sunset of the Lone Star State having achieved what he set out to do.

Mr Dawson did score a decent goal for Kidderminster in a pre-season friendly. Still possible that he is going to Australia? Seen a few comments about Bristol Rovers fans embarrassing themselves over not signing him, or something similar. Probably not coming back to Barrow.

If slightly off topic I'm sure a simple answer is allowed.

The fact is we don't really know what is going on, but the last time I recall us extending the application period for an advertised position at the club, we eventually signed Edmo as manager. I'm guessing we don't have many/suitable applicants for Community Sport Manager? Maybe/Maybe not, could be they are too busy to deal with it right now. Given where the club was before Mr Casson, the club needs to expand in every direction and promotion has put the pressure on, if the team on the field deliver again we might struggle.
