Club Statement: Manager Appointment Update

Brown is obviously pitching for Halifax and his comments are designed to make it look like they are better than Barrow as an option for him - possibly also trying to make it look like the issue of him not getting barrows job isn’t something he is bothered about

His comments about us being a bit Non League might look harsh in black and white but let’s be honest we are still in many ways stuck with some of the hangover and habits from the last 48 years being in NL - this is to be expected as you can’t change everything overnight. We are however moving in the right directions in many ways and hopefully this continues.

The thing however that strikes me most about Brown is that our board were very close to giving him the job (remember it was with the lawyers) and I think fortunately it didn’t work out and they made a much better appointment in Wild. Is it not a little worrying that Brown was even considered by the board as a permanent manager despite a poor record and his almost cartoon media persona? I suspect that the fact Brown appears to have talked/priced himself out of the job will turn out to be a major bonus for us (but it I am puzzled why they even considered it if Wild had been on their radar for some time)

The Board have previous for giving the job to a self-promoting gobshite. Sounds like they almost fell for the same trick again. Let's hope they realise this and learn from it.

The evidence points to money. If it was “with the lawyers”, ultimately Brown has asked for too much, or we haven’t offered enough. Same difference. Also the length of contract equates to the same thing. Irrespective of the detail, we have dodged a bullet. The point remains why were we talking to him? Only my personal speculation, but part of him coming in after Cooper might have been “if you keep us up we’ll talk about a full time appointment”. Repeat, we’ve dodged a bullet. Forward with Wild.

Don’t really like to be a “you’ve got that wrong” poster, but here Jim I think it’s right to point out that Paul Hornby said on Radio Cumbria, in terms, “it’s with the lawyers”.

We should stop discussing Brown and move on. To my mind, he saved us from relegation by seeing where the team format and tactics needed to be re-jigged, which earned us 7 points that I don't think we would have gained under Cooper. It is all very well saying we were saved by Oldham, but who knows how Oldham's results might have played out if they had been witihin a point or two of us in the run in instead of (probably) feeling it was a lost cause.

Brown may not be everyone's cup of tea, but he deserves our thanks for turning things round in his short tenure and we should leave it at that.

Good post i for one must admit i was duped by Browns maniplulation and over selling himself but i think its only fair to thank him for his efforts to keep us up and now we move on

Yes I got that wrong, but i do think we should be thankful for what Brown did in his 9 games, but not indulge in further debate about his character.
Then we should be pleased that, whatever the Board may or may not have intended, we have ended up with a manager that seems to be right for the club. In other words, it has all worked out for the best (we hope ).

The board obviously felt obliged (contractually obliged?) to offer him a deal as a reward for 'keeping us up'. They probably also thought it was a popular move given that 90% of fans seemed to want him permanently.

At least those fans are finally able to see past his Mothers Day stunt and his other bullshit.

I think they did want Brown at first but I think there will have been a big stumbling block around player recruitment and contracted players that weren’t in his plans. There would have been an impasse there for sure. Wild says he wants two for every position- 25 man squad- not difficult to work out where these players positions will be targeted when you consider who is still contracted for next season, so he may be hamstrung as to where he can bring players in. One or two aside, I still think the best players we have are players that came up from national League with us so recruitment has to be better. Im sure Wild will be a good fit for us but better recruitment is crucial if we are to improve, no matter who is the manager

What I like about Wild is when he said, more than once, that his players don't only have to be good players, they have to be good people as well.
