to do that, they would have to either: stay overnight on thursday/friday (expensive)

or set off very early (to get here ,train then do whatever!
Indeed. The fact is that you wouldn't get a team of professionals who would do it unless they were paid a bucket load of money. They are footballers with families and not many of them would be wanting to spend a night in Barrow unless they were paid very, very well for doing it. Just driving to Barrow once a fortnight from Manchester as well as other trips every other week will be one reason why we probably are paying too much for average players and why we don't have a great choice. If people want a team of locals it's already there and called Holker. They play at the highest level a local player can get to and if they were renamed Barrow and could pull in a few more of the better local players they might be challenging for their league instead of struggling near the bottom and there might be enough interest to attract 100 or so supports for home matches.
I've actually thought of supporting Holker OB a few times - have to admit when Barrow AFC are playing sh**e football. I've had mates who've played for them in the past. It would be great if they started to climb up the leagues with local lads and improved attendances. But can't see it happening as they aren't enough quality players around here for that to happen. A shame, because I'd rather have local lads wearing the shirt - with pride - rather than loanees and mercernaries, most of whom are only wanting to impress their parent club or to fill their wallets. Ryan Yates was an exception.

Local amateur side. There are loads of them. Good luck to them all, but Holker no more than any of the others.
Stood behind Ray Wilkie for years. Best education I ever had.

Otis Khan was another who excelled when he was here.

Further, it was the winner against Barnet (2 - 1) to send County to the top of the league.

What a guy!

Steve Housham
Richard Brodie

So that's five 'exceptions' without really thinking about it.

I think the one to play the fewest games but become an instant hit was Tim Erlandson.
Louis Almond was also a decent loanee.

Didn't Holt originally sign on loan?

The notion that a player has more passion because he''s signed a 12-month contract is [SwearFilter].
