I've seen a few other clubs signing players and the Manager isn't in the picture and then ive seen one with the manager so it could be just how the club have promoted the signing. Personally im not bothered as long as the player signs, Dunn probably has to speak to the lad and the BOD so hes doing his job...RedWeb wrote: ↑Tue Jul 21, 2020 8:56 amAgree with that.blumooncrab wrote: ↑Tue Jul 21, 2020 8:52 am should it not be David Dunn fronting up and welcoming his players ?
Yes. I was combining answer to comments on three different threads: signings, Rooney, and the Board and cash. I thought PH could explain why we let Rooney go for cash, what we are doing with the money and the strategy for signing out of contract players. I see that someone has now mentioned that the Board may be willing to pay for signings.blumooncrab wrote: ↑Tue Jul 21, 2020 8:52 am All in all, I think the club has done well so far. Perhaps we need some calming words of explanation about strategy from Paul Hornby?
Ok, but should it not be David Dunn fronting up and welcoming his players ?
Calming words? rooney wanted to leave and so left its as simple as that 3 year deal closer to home we cashed in. Or on the other side you keep a player that does nt want to be here and watch said person poison the squad.blumooncrab wrote: ↑Tue Jul 21, 2020 8:52 am All in all, I think the club has done well so far. We have brought in some real donkeys in the past.Walneywanderer1979 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 20, 2020 9:51 pm Let's give the lads a chance Jones has good league football pedigree James is still young and has potential and beading was a regular is Scottish championship level not too bad of signings players come and go and if Rooney didn't fancy league 2 and stockpot were offering him more money and closer to home you can't blame him thanks for what you did for us John and we move on plenty more signings to come yet it's all about needing a decent size squad to compete at league 2 level so let's see who else we bring in it's not all doom and gloom
You may remember I recommended Mike Jones as a good target for you on the day he was not offered a new contract at Carlisle.Jim wrote: ↑Tue Jul 21, 2020 8:26 am The club wanted to create excitement by drip feeding the news on Twitter, which is fair enough. Unfortunately, the first news was Rooney leaving. Perhaps that big 'downer' influenced the less than enthusiastic reaction from some people to the signings.
Firstly, Rooney was a highly influential player last season. However, as far as I know, he hadn't exactly been star man in much of the previous 10 years of his career, so perhaps we have got a good deal. Perhaps he was a one-season wonder, and it is suggested that he didn't want to play in L2 anyway. It will be interesting to see if he is a star man at Stockport, won't it?
Re the signings, I am not sure about James, will have to see how he performs. Jones is obviously a very experienced player, apparently much admired by Carlisle fans, and he should be very influential for us. Beadling also looks very promising: his promo inevitably shows his best play, but an endorsement from Kenny Lowe is reassuring. All in all, I think the club has done well so far. Perhaps we need some calming words of explanation about strategy from Paul Hornby?
Oh, and we do need to strengthen central defence, so I am looking forward to some more signings in that area!
Carlisle fan in peace here - thought I’d have a look at what you made of the Jones signing.NORTHERNSOUL wrote: ↑Tue Jul 21, 2020 11:10 amYou may remember I recommended Mike Jones as a good target for you on the day he was not offered a new contract at Carlisle.Jim wrote: ↑Tue Jul 21, 2020 8:26 am The club wanted to create excitement by drip feeding the news on Twitter, which is fair enough. He lives very close to Hopwood and is obviously used to the trip up the M6 so that shouldn't be a problem given that he won't be making it half as often.
But a big plus that I would hope Dunn will tap into is he.s a very well-liked bloke who has a massive amount of mates/contacts in the game and its virtually impossible to find anyone with a bad word to say against him.
This is the most sense I’ve read on this forum in months and it’s from a Carlisle fan..thanks for the contribution. I think he is exactly what we need.K52 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 21, 2020 1:58 pmCarlisle fan in peace here - thought I’d have a look at what you made of the Jones signing.NORTHERNSOUL wrote: ↑Tue Jul 21, 2020 11:10 am

Couple of things:
Jones was let go because our manager thought it unacceptable to ask him to do take two pay cuts in as many years. (Long story cut short, he was on one of Keith Curles ridicolous bonus contracts). Otherwise Jones would of still been at Carlisle, a L2 club who gets a player of Jones ability and personal traits should consider it a coup.
He doesn’t live in Hopwood, moved to Sheffield last year.
From what I seen of the way you played last year rooney would of struggled in L2, no doubt theirs a great player in him, but very few teams manage to include a player like him in the middle of the park (often get shoved out wide). Got to compare him to the players who play that role in L2 like Sarcevic and he’s not even on the same page.
Amazing the number of people who thought Rooney was the bees knees when he was here now think he's nothing special. Even more amazing that such an average player won Player of the Season awards, best player in the National League award as well as being in the National League team of the season and also scored arounbg 20 goals from midfield as well as being the team's captain, playmaker, free kick specialist and penalty taker. Hopefully we'll get a few more "nothing special" players!mightywhite wrote: ↑Tue Jul 21, 2020 3:11 pmThis is the most sense I’ve read on this forum in months and it’s from a Carlisle fan..thanks for the contribution. Should work wonders shouldn't it?
