I got the impression that, under Rob Kelly, we played a bit more long ball, which seemed quite successful.
We still play long ball it does nt work this team at present is screwed
you're right but before any kind of tactics, we need fight and determination apart from a couple of players this squad seem spineless and lack the passion for a relegation fight but good for the odd soundbite on our "nice cosy patronising videos "

Kay at delivery of corners etc looks poor
Who actually can take free kicks because its like "na mate you take it if you want"
Taylor did nothing today not that some others were better.
James runs and runs but most games hes totally out muscled off the ball and doesn't take chances when crosses are being put in. Quigley didn't get a single chance to shoot at goal ! Southend commentator at start said "Southend look far more physical in the warm up" and most teams are bigger and faster. Yeah we can pass it around, we can play good football but some games like today just are bad to watch ! Scunny next week is vital

Compete coincidence perhaps but I also think the main factor of the recent run of results was a lot to do with being allowed fans in. Players like Kay and Quigley in particular definitely respond/enjoy their football more when there is fans in

C taylor is worse than Biggins , bit worrying nobody has come in yet subs bench with nothing to bring on attacking wise , how many teams have we played against down to 10 men and could nt do anything against its beyond alarming this ill be honest id be gutted if we went down but at current rate it what we deserve 6 point games these southend and scun i can see southend on present form no where near the bottom come the end

Surely the Manager pre-plans set pieces before the match.
* Since when did Beadling become the #1 free-kick taker? He's never actually scored from a free kick and has only scored 3 goals in his last 51 appearances. Facts don't lie.
* As stated by several, Kay is not a good corner taker, so why does he take them all, with most being poor. Hardcastle would be much better.
Overlooking the overall abysmal match performance, with no shows by the mid-field, there is no excuse for failing to select and use your best options for set pieces, which often are your best scoring opportunities.

People keep saying we keep the ball well , but that's very easy to do if all your doing is passing it sideways and backwards we don't have anyone who can pass a dangerous ball foreword or anyone who can put a dangerous cross in the box, I bet quigly is regretting signing for us he gets no service whatsoever.

Bet he’s not; he won the league after signing for us

I just wonder if no one wants to come to Barrow with these lack of incomings or even rumours, especially to re-sign Taylor after showing next to nothing is the worry. Following his instagram you can see how worn out he is looking after with his newborn. Given its highly likely his last professional football contract and his priorities have massively now changed I can’t work out how he cares enough to really fight to get us out of this. That budget could have gone elsewhere. Thats no fault of his. But rather management decision making. Maybe I read too much into these things.

Yes, we do. His name is Callum Gribbin, just 21 with tons of skill and talent. Slots a beautiful thro' ball. But he can't even make the bench... Give him a try at #10. Can't do any worse. Biggins will probably be back in that position next week. If so, don't expect anything different than what we're used to.

The thing with that is you're probably right, Gribbin is an option and probably one of the better ones we've got at the moment if we want to change things. That doesn't make him a good option though, it just goes to show what a dreadful position we're in and how poorly we recruited in the summer.

Personnel hasn't changed so those arguments are par for the course this season and will be until some signings are (hopefully) made.
The worst part of today is that the fight seems to have disappeared, the body language is awful and the play looks more disjointed than at any other point (bar maybe Carlisle) in the season, bordering on clueless at times. Nobody seemed to have a clear idea of how we were supposed to be playing and to create no chances whatsoever is worrying.
In a season with a lot to worry about, taking a backwards step in performance, in an already pretty poor season, against a very poor team with ten men, is probably the most worrying part of today.

Thought Hardcastle was our free kick taker ? Absolutely shocking effort and no pen ? Sums this ref up tbh. We look [SwearFilter] poor and Taylor has been very poor. Our passes, corners are always awful just awful!
Hardcastle has barely been involved since he came back: not sure if it’s a match fitness issue or just playing with worse players but so far he’s nowhere near last year standards
