Re: Floodlights
bemused at some of the comments regarding promotion and playoffs... surely when you set out in any competition as a footballer, you aim to win, aim to go higher and get that title or promotion?
Will it be a disaster IF we did get promoted?? NO I don't think it would!!
IF the players or coxy read some of this forum, they must be thinking wtf???
IMO IF we did somehow manage playoff and promotion, it will set he wheels in motion for the improvements that's required.. anyone who thinks a new shiny ground is done overnight is either a sandwich short of a picnic or a village idiot!
Despite Mr C's money, we are a small club.. get promoted, get funding for improvements, get better investment for being a league club and build it slow.. yeh we all want it NOW but lets just remember who we are...Barrow afc.

As the last mentioned clubs found out, you need an infrastructure to build for the future. A club simply like ours cannot live forever off one mans money. It can however use money wisely , invest in new revenue streams and become more like the sides in the top group who have been non league and got up the leagues the right way. There are many more clubs who fail than succeed and I don't think we want to be like the second lot.
I understand its a great time to be a Barrow fan, best position we have been in years on the pitch and (possibly) debt free. That doesn't mean we shouldn't be planning towards the next 5 years.

Absolutely.. it will take time and I would rather it does than rush in and go tits up risking the future of the club.. I do think that promotion will give us far better opportunities for sponsorship, potential new investment, grants, funding etc etc..The Real Slim a former member of this forum wrote:Whose example would you prefer we follow?olbarrafancumbak wrote:

It will take time, but its been 3 years now. Promises were made and very little has been put in place.

WE have made small improvements, the team is doing well so I disagree slightly...The Real Slim a former member of this forum wrote:olbarrafancumbak wrote:

I think promotion would kick start any MAJOR work as it would have to be a necessity surely?
Fleetwood is a good model to follow..I think. The growth and development as been done within the means of the club and although Mr C has not made any noises recently, is perhaps thinking along the same lines?
I also think the club should be talking to BAE, Collages, local unis etc to try and get apprentices involved in design, build etc... take ownership and make people be proud and want to be more involved?

Perhaps if Mr C could enlighten us a little it would go a long way?

This is it, with him being away most of the time and no one really at the club in any capacity to announce or sort anything out then its all very quiet.
The club needs a general manager in place or failing that an actual Chief Exec.

Re: Floodlights
maybe get every member of forum to flood his email and force the issue??
Re: Floodlights
Or how about some people stop moaning about what he HASN'T done rather than what he HAS, like keeping the club alive?
Or perhaps asking some people to be positive instead of negative is going a stage too far!

Its fine and well being positive. I think people need to start being a bit more realistic and start thinking about the future of the club instead of being in the clouds with the present.

He may well be pumping money in but that doesn't mean its being spent in the right areas ensuring the club has a future. Increasing the playing budget massively is a temporary measure and itll bring temporary high points. There isn't much evidence to suggest without this money being "pumped in" we would be able to hold our own , especially on crowds which are the same as they have been for years.
Just close your eyes for a second, take a deep breath and imagine Casson pulling his money at midnight tonight. How would the club pay the playing staff on crowds of 11-12 hundred odd?
What happens if next year he spends a load again on bringing in players but it doesn't really work out and we do a bit of a Braintree or an Eastleigh. We don't know whats going to happen in the future which is why I (and others seem to be starting to) believe we need to start looking at where we want to be in 5 years time.
At the moment its a bit like buying a F1 car, upgrading the engine each year to make it faster but failing to plan to change the tires or fill it with fuel.

Re: Floodlights
I dont think anyone is disputing that - the point I made was that promotion just for the sake of promotion is dangerous and could cause harm for the long term future of the club unless siginificant changes to the operating model are done. As I said I came away from Burton's ground after the amazing Playoff Final promotion game with huge mixed feelings as I knew that we were not ready practically, financially or in any other way to really cope with the demands and expectations of a higher league. Cup runs masked the true problems and I remember sitting in 3 AGM's telling members the underlying problems but generally no one was concerned because Brentford, Middlesbrough, Sunderland, Wembley was all that the fans (understandably in many ways) were really interested in.barrowfan wrote:And just close YOUR eyes and ask where we would would be if Mr Casson HADN'T put his money in. a former member of this forum has some good points but alas I fear it is often the case that people prefer to shoot the messenger than hear the message.
Some people really do need to think a bit more before they post things on here
