Changed my opinion due to spending a few days in the cells, bloody horrible. Changed it again now after reading all the crap on Facebook, they deserve all they get.Ste Story wrote:Earlier in the thread...Thelandlord wrote:I think prison is a bit much, if they kicked off in a pub then it would just be a big fine and community service, seems they have got made an example of because it was in a football ground.Thelandlord wrote:Moist

Re: Atherston Matters (BAFC's Response)
In response to my comments in yesterday's HSN about the comments on the Atherstone Town Facebook page, I'm delighted to be able to share this from Austin Straker on behalf of the Barrow AFC board: "It has been agreed to make Atherstone aware of the comments and to seek the authority of the FA to decide how best to deal with things. We do not wish to become inflammatory, thus giving credibility to those writing the article. We will judge how effective this approach has been if there is any feedback to us."

Re: Atherston Matters
I've just read the Atherstone Facebook comment and thought of adding my opinion. However, I'm not sure if myself - or any of us - would be able add any comments on that particular page. Probably for the best.
I think that Facebook quote is an insult to those that travelled and who were attacked. I think a complaint should be made to Atherstone Football Club and their local police. I think the person who wrote the comment (apart from being an imbecile) should be charged with writing literature of an inflammatory nature.
The writer's choice of words, particularly ...''we are proud to be associated with them''...gives the impression that they had attacked an opposing hooligan element bent on causing trouble not a group of football fans containing elderly people and children.

Re: Atherston Matters
Just read the Atherstone chairman's reaction. I found the following quote totally mystifying:
"We feel that a better sentence would be for them to be made to carry out community service in Barrow, so that those who were affected would get something back."
Is this guy for REAL!
Has he thought about the COST & IMPLICATIONS of that remark. Or the SAFETY of those Atherstone 'Fans' if they set foot on our soil?

Re: Atherston Matters
Do they seriously think we would want scum like that in our community? They obviously have lost all sense of decency to even suggest such a thing. Reading of some of their previous crimes leads me to the conclusion they haven't learned any lessons from the past.
I would say this club is indicative of the type of person this area inhabits and especially for a local church to condone such behaviour and leading them to believe they have been unjustly treated confirms that belief.
I hope their appeal leads them to have extra time added onto their sentence for further wasting of court time and expense.
The F.A. should intervene and impose sanctions on this despicable club and it's equally despicable chairman.

Re: Atherston Matters
I am involved in a discussion with an individual from Atherstone Town on the club's Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/atherstone-tow ... 9/reviews/ (look for the one-star review) which began when I felt the response from the club to Adam Johnson's review was, well, shall we say failed to address Adam's concerns, and dismissed them in a, at best, flippant, and at worst, insulting manner?

Re: Atherston Matters
Probably best we stay away from those idiots. The guy who runs that facebook page is clearly quite thick and over defensive. Our clubs been to the FA about the matter so its probably just best left there.Ralph wrote:I am involved in a discussion with an individual from Atherstone Town on the club's Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/atherstone-tow ... 9/reviews/ (look for the one-star review) which began when I felt the response from the club to Adam Johnson's review was, well, shall we say failed to address Adam's concerns, and dismissed them in a, at best, flippant, and at worst, insulting manner?
Couldn't help but laugh at this Atherstone Town FC facebook page post.
" Please tell me how much profit did barrow FC make on the selling of t shirts referencing that awful day quoting something like "I survived Atherstone Town"? "
Probably not a lot

Re: Atherston Matters
The club had nothing whatsoever to do with the printing or selling of the t-shirts and did not like the idea. The Real Slim a former member of this forum wrote:Probably best we stay away from those idiots.
