You could well be right Ste. It is early but good players are usually chased well before the end of the season and most football league sides worth anything know who they are going after before the season ends. I remember one player (can't recall his name) sometime ago saying the reason he left was there was no contract talks with anyone after the end of the season, he intimated that league clubs offer contracts straight away so the players know what they are doing before they go on holiday. It kind of suggested at the time that Barrow were not very professional about it. Cox is doing it early with Barrow, which is a refreshing change.

I'm guessing that Carlisle were pretty much the only ones interested enough to actually talk but they apparently backed out over potential wages. I guess Cook thought Tranmere was his next best option. Also we don't know what clauses he has in that contract should a football league side approach, another good season at Tranmere and he might get his move. As many have said on here, he might not be considered good enough which is why only Carlisle appeared to have been in for him. There has clearly been a flood of national league sides interested.

Tranmere apparently announced an increased budget (1.1m) for next season so I guess we know where some of the money has gone.

I think we all knew he was going to leave this close season - what came as the shock was the sideways move to a fellow non-league club. Yes, Tranmere has the lure of money/prestige/history etc. but I genuinely believe he has made the wrong decision.
At Barrow he is pretty much guaranteed to start most games, is loved by the fans and I'm sure would've cemented his name in the record books had he carried on here. We've seen previously that he didn't live up to expectations at the bigger clubs in this league, maybe he's grown from that experience, only time will tell.

His comments about wanting a football league club and all that jazz baffle me somewhat. If he wanted to play Football League so badly, he would've taken the wage drop and gone to Carlisle. Maybe he (or his agent) will choose their words more carefully in future. I'm not saying he definitely said he wasn't going to move to a non-league club before Steeley, Moribund et al. get out their tissues.

Sad to see you go Cooky, you gave us some great memories. But I wish you no luck, and I hope we make your experience hell when you return next season.

From what I recall, it was the club who revealed what he had supposedly said. They wouldn't be the first club to be economical with the true during contract discussions.

Cook wanted to leave and it is pointless keeping a player who doesn't want to be there. He will/has been replaced and we move on.

Tranmere are a bigger club than Barrow and if he has obtained a significant pay rise then fair play to him. I would do the same in the same situation.
Wow a sensible post at last . Good luck andy i hope it all works out for you . look forward to seeing you next season :scarf:

If Cooky didn't say it he has had enough time to make it clear that he never. Couldve done it in his farewell tweet.

This for me
I'm not bitter but the club / the manager / Mr Casson / the local media have led us to believe he set his heart on playing in the league and had he done so I'd have wished him luck and rooted for him -

Pretty much agree with most of A.B.'s post........except I do wish him luck, I feel it'd be unfair not to after his goals and effort over the past two seasons. Just because he's decided to move on shouldn't be a reason to make him a hated person here.......I just wish he'd have handled things differently.

Perhaps his agent had more of an influence than we know about.

I agree with this, Andy Cook had 2 great seasons at Barrow and gave 100%.

Tranmere want Jennings from Wrexham, bit of competition for cooky if he signs!

Not questioning his credentials or his effort over his 2-year stint. We all know how good he was, and we wouldn't have a 20-page thread on his transfer speculation otherwise.
At the end of the day, the lad lied to us - the club, the fans, the chairman.

Agree with AB. You could have been a legend (over used I know) Barrow AFC signed you twice, the second time when it went belly up at Grimsby. You were loved here by the fans, and now you go and kick us all (apart from the usual happy clappers) in the [SwearFilter]. I don't really care what happens to you now, and that is really sad. Enjoy your NON LEAGUE few extra quid. My memories of you and what you have done will quickly fade. I did'nt expect to post this.

Who gives a [SwearFilter]. He's sold us out again only this time we actually have a chance last time he was right to leave but why now. On that note people stating that there is no loyalty in football anymore. Well thats the [SwearFilter] point there should be. I now despise him. Cinabit Cooky thick [SwearFilter].

I always say the one main rule at barrow towards the fans is don't be a liar. He's gone and done it. That's him finished with us.

According to you he had signed a 2 year contract after the Wrexham game?

Disappointed to identify the apparent lack of integrity.
He's bound to make himself unpopular by indicating he wouldn't go to another National League team, and now he has.
Should have kept his mouth shut if he didn't mean it.
Probably now lost a lot of respect from Barrow fans - lost mine anyway.
Easily replaceable in a decent side, so that must be the priority.
