Floodlights
Re: Floodlights
I heard at the match last night that we are now keeping the existing floodlight towers minus the lamp cages on the top of them.
Don't know if there's any truth in it though. Personally I think it would be a great idea as long as the existing towers are spruced up and looked after.

Re: Floodlights
True...but it increases the official capacity for big games. Look at how many more people we could have got in for the Rochdale game.paddy71 wrote:Increase? There was under 1300 last night for a big gameMiddleton Nick wrote:Eyesore. Pull them down and move on. Increase capacity for a start.

Re: Floodlights
If the existing towers and foundations can stay the cost in changes to the floodlights will come down a lot. There's no point changing them just for the sake of it.Londonblue wrote:True...but it increases the official capacity for big games. And on the subject of capacity the floodlights being there won't have reduced it by that much - certainly more crush barriers will help increase capacity by far more - and both revamping the floodlights (reusing the towers) and putting in new crush barriers will cost less than completely new towers/foundations etc IF reusing them is feasible.

Re: Floodlights
I thought that the pylons had been condemned as unsafe, though?
The foundations for them were about 12ft deep, as I recall - maybe more? But that was around 55 years ago and the rules may have changed - think back to the debate re re-roofing the Holker End. One for the experts to sort out, methinks.

Re: Floodlights
As far as I know the old towers are still coming down with the "baskets"....with the work being done from (probably) inside the ground.chipmunx wrote:If the existing towers and foundations can stay the cost in changes to the floodlights will come down a lot. Regarding the increase in capacity, you'll be surprised at what it adds should the whole set of (three) floodlights come down. I don't think it's just a simple case of the fencing around the bases knocking 100 (or whatever) off the ground capacity. There are also plans for extra crush barriers - again, surprising what that actually increases the ground capacity to.
We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.

Re: Floodlights
Are these floodlight works down as Maintenance? I ask because surely if stadium works are being looked at being started sometime in the near future then would it not make sense to do this work when we know whats going on with ground developments?

Re: Floodlights
So.. they are keeping the existing pylons minus the cages at the top? So are the new lights going on the existing pylons? sorry if you think I am being thick but if someone could shed some erm, light on the matter..
I do love the pylons, as a kid seeing them as you approached the ground knew you were only minutes from watching the match.. Always said I would be sad to see em go but if they are not and are being revamped/used then great!
