Re: AGM
The long-awaited for AGM will not be a good experience for members of Barrow AFC. All that we can hope for is that the BoD keep to their original ‘squeaky clean’ promise and let us have the truth no matter how hard that truth may be to bear.
Nobody sets out to do a bad job and I would say most members appreciate the BoD’s unpaid efforts to keep the club operating at the present level, and their valiant attempts to move the club forward. The members are not shareholders of a company who might be losing money due to BoD performance; they are supporters of the club and by default, the BoD - who facilitate the continued existence of the club.
If the members and rank-and-file supporters are made fully aware of the whole situation, then maybe we can begin to formulate an idea or Plan B of what to do next in the best interests of the club.

very much this, but don't take the view of it being a bad experience. Go into it positively and as an opportunity to address any concerns and move forward.Wintergreen wrote:If the members and rank-and-file supporters are made fully aware of the whole situation, then maybe we can begin to formulate an idea or Plan B of what to do next in the best interests of the club.
Clearly we cannot keep floating along like this and there must be a "going forward" plan, realistic targets and measures of success. Equally important- an action plan in place to deliver them. I want to know how the elected board plan to build the club over the next 1/3 / 5/ 10 years regardless of whether we stay up or go down. The fanbase is in decline. This is the biggest and most immediate concern. How is this to be addressed? How is the board going to utilise the close season as much as possible to re-energise the interest in the club going into next season- be it BSP or BSN. Shutting down and doing nothing over the summer is not acceptable and is not what I want to see again. We must get better at everything we do and do these things more effectively.
I think members can take the hit of any message so long as the board display the energy and enthusiasm that will take us forward positively. If they can't do it, or need support, then invite others to support the board over the forthcoming months who have the drive and credibility to take us forward. Something was supposed to happen with the development of "sub boards" announced at the meet the board night- what happened to them? or have I missed something.
So- look forward to the AGM and use whatever message comes out as the catalyst to improve things. I want us to stay up, but going down should not mean that we should not keep working hard to progress and come back stronger.

Re: AGM
It wouldn't surprise me if the 'discussion on the constitution' was scrapping the membership scheme altogether?
In the last 6 months I've heard the term 'PLC' used on numerous occasions and the club have done their best NOT to encourage the membership scheme - they couldn't even send an email to remind people to renew and haven't bothered with members concerns by telling us things that were supposed to be happening just to keep us quiet for a while (AGM delay, not submitting accounts, debentures, website etc etc). As the membership level isn't what it was they can use this excuse as a way of getting rid of the scheme and say they are putting a few safeguards in to stop people 'doing a Vaughan' and the members will agree to convert the club back to a shareholding club as it will be put to us that 'its the best thing for the club.'
Some board members have money in the club in the form of loans and these could be converted to shares and its likely with a little more cash that this would be enough to leave most of the existing board as the major shareholders as nobody else would put in enough cash to get enough shares to oppose them. The money raised from converting to a PLC would wipe out a lot of the debts and mean any new board wouldn't have to bother with getting grief from members, only a few shareholders who wouldn't have enough power to touch them. If this wasn't the clubs intention then they've done a good job just to make me and others think otherwise or at least seriously question what the hell is going on?

I for one wouldn't blame any director who has ploughed money into the club from trying to protect their investment.
On another note. Is it too late for me to become a member and attend the AGM?

Re: AGM
I would have thought Reg, if you go to the reception desk with your £20, you would be given a membership card for the 2012-13 period.Reg wrote:I for one wouldn't blame any director who has ploughed money into the club from trying to protect their investment.

You would then be able to show that card on the 17th January.
Re: AGM
All the speculation on this thread and the 'New signing' one doesn't do any good for supporters or the club. It is my view that it's no use fretting about things that you can't do anything about, so why don't we all wait until the AGM and see what the situation is?
I think it is critical that the Board gives us a clear picture at the AGM of where we stand - then we can all get together to see what we can do to help.
Meanwhile, let's hope that any prospective signings can't read!

Yeah, lets just bury our heads in the sand whilst we get told absolutely nothing.jim wrote:All the speculation on this thread and the 'New signing' one doesn't do any good for supporters or the club. It is my view that it's no use fretting about things that you can't do anything about
Re: AGM
Not quite what I meant, Kieran. No point speculating til we know the facts and we ain't going to be told until the AGM - which is less than 2 weeks away. Sometimes this forum looks more like a group therapy session.Kieran wrote:Yeah, lets just bury our heads in the sand whilst we get told absolutely nothing.jim wrote:All the speculation on this thread and the 'New signing' one doesn't do any good for supporters or the club. What's the betting?
Re: AGM
Fair enough Jim, probably wasn't fair of me to just highlight that particular part of you post.
I find it incredible however that there is still no official word from our club on this O'Donnell transfer saga. Stockport have quite clearly stated its a problem at our end, yet we have made no comment. We're unbelievable at times.
My own opinion is that there are things very wrong at the club, and there are worrying times ahead. The silence from the board only adds fuel to that belief.

Re: AGM
unfortunatly, i am unable to make the AGM due to exams - if its possible could those who go report back on a few areas for me? (i am a paid member for this season)
1. development - still no word or have we lost it?
2. why do we have contiunous bad communication between the club and the fans - also what assurances can be made to improve this?
3. despite the promise of a squeeky clean club, why are we continually been kept in the dark?
following on....does anyone on this forum have any intention of standing for election? perhaps fresh faces and new ideas from frustrated fans is the best way to go and imho would benefit the club to no end!!
(before i get slated for suggesting others stand but not putting myself forward, i would love to be part of the clubs board, but as a student with no business sense/experience i could not commit to making the club any better - i also intend to go to university in the summer, so for the sake of 5 months it would not be practical to stand)
