Both Cumbria routes to (A66 & A69) north-east now open. Pathetic from Gateshead & their coach company (surely there is more than one coach company in the north-east!). Very little chance of them being stranded in Barrow tonight. Even if they were, the contingency would be to put them & their coach-driver in the adjacent Travelodge.

If pitch is deemed playable they should be kicked out of the competition for failing to fulfil the fixture. FA need to grow a pair and put their foot down...

Very strange decision.

Anyone fancy a guess at what the real reason could be?

They're tinpot? Can't host a game at their meccano athletics stadium when it's cold, can't travel when there's a bit of snow.

Given Gateshead's alleged wealth surely they could have slipped the coach company a sweetener to compensate any inconvenience.

Yeah, they are in collusion with their southern counterparts who together with Gateshead see us as isolated-too far out the way or whatever and this is one way of making life hard for us until we eventually disappear back to conf north, which as far as I am concerned ain't gonna happen.

I'm pretty sure they could've made the journey to Barrow and back to Gateshead no problem. If you think it's going to be icy, you allow a little extra time for your journey, and drive sensibly. Going at a sensible speed could add 30-45 minutes onto their journey, but at least they'd get here and get the game played. I bet there's thousands of people making a similar journey today with no problem.

I must say I was shocked they had cancelled due to travel when I spoke to John at the ground earlier.

Very strange indeed.

Why do they have to be so dramatic on the official site - human life more important than a football - true of course but come on the main roads are clear - trains are running there's no threat to human life other than the everyday risks of life itself - we all thought like you'd never leave the house

Its to be hoped for their sake they don't have Macclesfield on their fixture list soon. There'll be Armageddon !

Maybe they dont but there is a real chance (either we win on Sat or draw or its off on Sat) that we will end up having to re-arrange the Macc game - again. No doubt that will be our fault.....

On a totally different note I phoned my insurance company up this morning and was greeted with a message "Due to the weather the staff have not been able to get to work" hell they should have been around in 1947 and 1963 now that was snow a bit unbelievable really.
