It doesnt sound like we would be fleetwood towning our way to the football league but it does sound like its a fresh start to build upon.

We are lucky to have thos opportunity. No more ' we need your memberships in' business.

This would drag us out of the dark ages. Plus he plans to open a club shop in town.

 The 'minimum' low seven-figure would be made up of an initial injection of around £250,000 which would be used to pay off some of the club's long-term debt, including their Furness building society mortgage.

 Significant five-figure monthly payments to meet operational costs over two years depending on the clubs finances.

 Wants to change club's ownership structure from a membership to a share capital structure to reflect his position as sole owner.

 Would create a general manger type role this person would serve as the face of the club.

 Casson's long-time friend, Edinburgh born Jamie reid who has held managerial roles at United biscuits and now runs an interior design business Stewart interiors would take on a managerial role in the short term.

 Casson would be chairman, two UK family members would be on the board, Reid, two Barrow based members and two season ticket holders. Would also be willing to let one of the current members stay on the board.

 Would review all existing contracts at the club. Would also open a new club shop on Dalton road.

That is a very basic summary taken from the Evening mails summary. It will no doubt be online later.

My only question is why would an apparant level headed businessman do this?

I can only think of 2 reasons although I'm sure there are more.

1. He is a true benefactor who has money to spend and loves the club

2. He plans to sell the assets off in a while and hopefully with planning permission to build houses on the site and make plenty of bucks.

Yes I know I'm an old cynic ;)

PS Is it the same Paul Casson who went to the Grammar School?

Me too Matty.

Was Paul Casson the original Mystery Investor who shied away from the club's toxic debt last year or a differnt investor altogether?

All sounds reasonable to me and as a former member of this forum says the membership system as good as it has been in the past has run it's purpose now, we need to start looking to change and this sounds just the trick.

Reading between the lines it seems like the current board are over pricing the club and its assets.

This worries me. Am I taking 2+2 and making 5?

What happens after 2 years of ploughing the money in?

There are much cheaper and more profitable plots of land available in Barrow (or indeed the world) already, without the hassle of demolishing a football ground. Or ploughing in two years operational cost money. Why would someone from the US want to buy that paricular piece of land just to build a few houses? It would make zero sense.
