Re: Monday Nights Meeting with Paul Casson
the only downside was the 75% needed to give mr casson the chance to take back our club to where we want it!
is there any way round this i.e. could we change this at the a.g.m.?
if we cant is it 75% of the members in total or75% of people who vote?
steve leonard can you advise?

Did he put on free booze?
Re: Monday Nights Meeting with Paul Casson
Is a 75% vote turnout unprecedented? It seems quite unlikely to happen.

It all comes 'round again.

Re: Monday Nights Meeting with Paul Casson
If you (and other non-members) think this is the best option for the future of the club why not become a member now so you can have a vote and influence the outcome of the proposed takeover? If enough new members join there would be the additional short term benefit of a small cash injection into the club. Every little bit helps. On current evidence my vote will be going with Mr. Casson.Bingo wrote:I didn't attend the meeting and I am not a member so I'm probably not even entitled to an opinion
I followed tonight on twitter and i have a good feeling about this - it could be our best hope - It might be our only hope - the alternative might be no club in the long term -
I also hope that a place can be found for some of the people involved in the club right now.

Monday Nights Meeting with Paul Casson
75% of people that bother to turn up or 75% of every member? If it is the latter I really can't see that happening.
I personally think if this guy isn't given the chance in a couple of years time we might not have a club.
The investment alone the ground needs, debts we currently have and supporter apathy after any chance of a long term future are gone.
I really hope people can look at the potential and not the status quo.

Re: Monday Nights Meeting with Paul Casson
With Paul Casson saying that he and his team have been in touch with the BOD almost daily, and that they have presumably met their criteria up to this point...coupled with the statements from Tony at various meetings that the BOD cannot go on (and indeed would not want to) indefinitely then I would hope that the BOD will be recommending this option.
If they do so (and I really think it is the sensible option) then I'd like to think that this would be enough to sway/convince the members that are currently undecided. If nobody else does it then I will certainly be asking this question directly on Friday at the Crossbar. Ideally we want as united a front as possible going forward and the supporting testimonial from the BOD will go a long way to making it as smooth a journey as possible.
I think it needs to be clarified too...do we need to see a 75% vote from all possible members or just a 75% of those who bother to vote?

Company law dictates that 75% of total members need to vote for this for it to happen.
Hope this clarifies matters

Re: Monday Nights Meeting with Paul Casson
Had chance to sleep on this one! The I have a dream speech from Mr Casson last night was well put together, letting us all know in no uncertain terms his roots and heart still reside in Barrow. I think the guy was genuine enough and has good intentions if not a little over ambitious, league football may be more than anyone could ever hope for. The cost of bringing our ageing ground out of the 60s and into the modern world is going to be a sizable one and is going to take very deep pockets indeed. Looking forward to Fridays meet the BoD and who knows maybe an endorsement of Mr Cassons proposals.

Re: Monday Nights Meeting with Paul Casson
The man has an obsession with toilets. I hope he doesn't fit those slots on the door where you have to pay to go once they are refurbished. Oh yes, and he mentioned rattles.
On a serious note he did seem a bit vague when the question was asked where the players would live if they relocated and after a bit of waffling threw in the line they would probably buy houses or whatever.
He also asked when the pitch was last laid and I don't think anyone could or did give an answer but it is something that Gareth is desperate to do but because of the many activities on the pitch once the season has ended this would have to be sorted with local clubs/schools and dance troupes. He did say the pitch was a fundemental part of the club and so it is--a tool of the trade and an important part.
There was an amusing incident when the question was asked how he was going to get his money back in two years and he genuinely seemed bemused by the question saying he hadn't made that statement and it was pointed out to him that he had, as it was reported in the Evening Mail.
Interesting times.

holkerbird you are right about the pitch,i think the board need to give gareth some support with his plans!
if the board don`t endorse mr cassons bid, then surely they would have to put up their plans for the future(i won`t hold my breath!)

Re:
From what I have read on this thread from a number of respected posters, it seems that there was a positive attitude after the meeting yesterday, and it does seem to be the only realistic way forward available to the club, and to us the supporters. The current membership set-up has served its purpose over the last decade or so, but it restricts the likelyhood of substantial investment - which we need - to virtually nil, and the amount of work that needs doing at Holker Street to bring the ground up to an acceptable standard is substantial; a roof on the Holker End (which in turn is likely to mean the terrace being rebuilt), refurbishment or replacement of the floodlights, modern and hygenic toilets, the pitch - the list goes on. Paul Casson's proposals provide a way by which these objectives could be achieved, and he seems to have proven to those present (I was not at the meeting) that he is not a Vaughan in disguise. The development of a supporters' trust as part owner of the club could further dispel these fears.
As mentioned in a previous post, the suggestion that players live in or near the town is not going to work with part-time players who may well have a good job elsewhere which they would be reluctant to leave, and if we rely on loan signings to any extent, moving to Barrow for perhaps a month or so would just not be an option. Having the players move to the town may be viable for full time professionals, but I don't think that we are ready to go back down this route just yet.
I would have thought at the time the new regime takes over many of the current Directors would step down, but I do think that for the sake of the continuity of managing the club's affairs a nucleus of the existing Board would be invited to stay on.

I fear that if proxy and/or postal voting is not available, this will not happen. A number of members will not be able to attend a meeting for a number of valid reasons - distance, work and family commitments, and so on. And then there is the apathy vote.Uncle Peter wrote:Company law dictates that 75% of total members need to vote for this for it to happen.
