Not only that, he told me several of his BAFC supporting friends are going to do the same. His rationale was that he'd rather have a club in a lower division than no club at all because, although he has no objections to PC, he cannot see any future once PC dies as his children will to all intents and purposes be Americans who will have no interest in BAFC. I told him that I didn't see any future for BAFC withouth this takeover but he won't change his mind. I was very surprised as I had assumed that the only thing that could stop this takeover was the possibility of under 75% of people voting but after the chat I had with my friend I'm now not as sure as I was previously.
As Paul looks reasonably healthy we might assume that it may be twenty years before he dies (lets face it, it happens to us all) so I'll worry about his children's attitude to Barrow AFC when that day dawns.

There was a quote from Steve Leonard last night (something like if you look at the worst thing that can happen you would not get out of bed).

There was another analogy relating to "running a football club is like a relay race you take the baton, running and eventually passing the baton on to the next man!

As Steve said "Its a leap of faith"

My opinion is "If you don't have faith stay in bed"
We're all supporters on here. Let's leave the negative comments to the away fans

Well Brian Keen was no teenager when he came on the scene but we had faith in him and his offspring eventually got drawn into it too - and good on 'em. It really is a no-brainer - do we just carry on losing £122k every year until the Chairman has had enough, bankrupts himself or God forbid dies in office? Maybe that's why the vote requires a 75% majority given the fact that 25% of the population are barmpots who are entitled to vote on things.

what if the current people with money owed and running the club die?
Has your friend spoke to PCs children to confirm that they will have no interests in the club?

tell your friend to vote PC :D
You're preaching to the converted but I know that nobody will change his mind and we're talking about somebody who loves this club and, as I said, has supported it for over 50 years. I did mention that my friend would be long gone before PC but he's thinking of future generations not himself. I don't agree with him but I'd certainly support his right to his own opinion.
If he is thinking of future generations then by voting YES he is at least giving them hope of having a team to support. Vote NO and the club will be gone before your friend let alone PC. People really do need to get a grip and wake up and smell the coffee. The current BOD as a group do NOT WANT TO/CANNOT carry on, end of story. How clear do they need to make it without actually spelling it out? By stopping this takeover it is robbing them of getting at least most of their money back and maybe all of it if the debenture holders give up their individual few quid as someone suggested last night. There is no one else locally who can put in the time and money they have and even if there were, what is the difference between them and PC other than he happens to live across the pond? The answer is, there is no difference ! So what is the problem? I have said before if it's not him now then it will have to be someone else at some point and possibly at a time where there is NO option and we can't be fussy who it is and they may not have any real interest in BAFC or the town. Ring any bells?

A business that's £600,000 in debt and losing £2500 every week. Its not viable.
Seems to good to be true that someone wants to pull us out of the shit
Anyone who votes NO to PC needs their heads looking at.

If Mr Cassons proposal is rejected I know that I could never possibly set foot in H St again, and I am damn sure there will be plenty more like me.Then it would only be a very short time before the club finally goes under.

Speaking as a fan, are you really saying you would rather watch the club go under should a democratic vote go against Mr Casson?

I just dont understand, but respect you for saying it as you feel.

A minor point but its not losing £2500 a week now, it was when we were in Conf Prem (its stabilised now).

Great fan you are.
Presume you mean if it doesn't get enough votes to be accepted (rather than rejected)? TBH I don't think the proposal is gonna get so many votes against that it will be rejected, the first question is will it get 75% of the membership to vote for it? I think a few fans will be voting for it reluctantly because a lot of what PC has said doesn't add up financially, there's no safeguards, we have no idea about the board, there is very little detail etc while voting against it looks an even worse proposition.

The point about what happens if PC dies is a valid one bearing in mind what happened at Gretna when Brookes Milson died and the club folded, but I don't think our takeover is gonna be subsidised to quite to the same extent. However PC did indicate he expects the club to be sustainable in the long run? TBH this is one of the areas where I can't see how it will happen especially if we are in Conf Prem and consider we've had 414K losses in the last 3 seasons with mediocre teams.

there are a few negative comments on here about mr casson yet i cannot recall any one asking him about about some of the things being mentioned on here!

so what do we do?,carry on as we are now heads in the sand waiting for another cup run, praying the directors don`t want their money back,no money to pay for a ground way past it`s sell by date,

wake up, i`m not buying what was said (on friday) that everythings o.k. as it is and when asked about this season`s figures we were not told much (i know they didn`t need to)but they had to tell mr casson so why wasn`t the question answered? and where was our plans for the future nobody asked that but hey everythings o.k.!
if people cannot see that the directors looked as if they had had enough(i can`t blame them!)then i was at a different meeting.

Maybe, just maybe, it will be better led and managed than it was in the last 3 seasons?

Nigel, if you bothered to read my posts fully I've explained that it isn't an option to keep the present set-up and I've also mentioned a lot of the things I referred to in my previous post but was told to shut up because I was being negative.

We couldn't ask PC about a lot of the stuff as most of it he only came out with at his meeting and more stuff has come out since then. I've also pointed out about how the finances don't add up along with other things in previous posts yet nobody is interested in this side of things because they just want the present board out and PC to takeover irrespective of the fact that the finances are way short of adding up to what he's saying will happen.

if it does go wrong you can post on here and say i told you so! but really John hand on heart what`s the alternative if you or anyone else can give me one i will be pleasently surprised!

finally we all have one goal for barrow afc to progress so less of the "ANGST"

Having supported the club since the seventies myself I have prayed for this situation for years,a Barrovian willing to take the club on and invest in both the team and the deteriating ground that I love.If the outcome is a No vote Ihave made the same decision as you mally and will not return again,as difficult a choice as it may be,but there are other things to do in life on a saturday.
So just a message to any old farts who are in the No camp, voteNo and it will be down to you when the club are playing north west counties.
