What is it with Barrow managers and things happening at Gainsbourgh.

I don't think the guy is sexist but I don't think think he has a very good sense of humour I heard him say something to a fan - he thought it was funny but it was cringeworthy bad like he's been watching terry and June on gold

If it had been one of us we would be banned - but there you go

Stand by for Redboy or Rockerlad as he used to be known before he lost one of his six fingers.

I have to confess to being a white, middle class, elderly, unreconstructed male, but I can't help feeling that there is a whiff of Orwell's 1984 in the way people feel obliged to report such comments. I also can't help feeling that there is a whiff of self righteousness in some of the comments that others have made on this topic. I can't believe that so many of our fans are so lilywhite that they have never uttered a sexist comment.

To fine someone £3,000 for an off-colour comment made to colleagues and not directed at the person concerned is OTT in my opinion - 'censured and warned over future conduct' would have been quite sufficient.

The comment that he is alleged to have made was “That’s just typical. That’s what happens when you get women involved in football.”

Substitute the word "women" with any of "blacks", "muslims" or "gays". Would you still be of the same opinion Jim?

But he didn't say any of them so that's irrelevant.

They've given him a punishment that will make him (or others) think twice about saying anything like that again. He's in the spotlight and he needs to act in an appropriate way no matter how frustrated he gets at decisions.

No it's not, they're all discriminatory, and all as bad as each other as far as I'm concerned.

It is relevant because he selected a particular section of society just as Spanner is suggesting. I do agree with Jim that there are folks out there determined to take offence if they possibly can BUT the fact it was said ' to a group of mates' is the irrelevant bit. The implication is that outwardly I'll say this but, in reality, what I believe (and what actually dictates my actions) is something else.

Weird how this was kept under wraps for so long.
As if it would just all blow over.

What if he called someone a " ginger [SwearFilter]" ?

Wonder if hes ever called a ref a " fat [SwearFilter]" ?

These probably wouldnt be reported

Weird how society doesnt see bullying someone about their hair colour or weight the same as when someones gender or race is brought into things.

Here is what the FA should have done in my opinion.

a) Read the complaint
b) Ring the person the comment was aimed at (lineswoman) and ask 'were you offended'?
c) Take appropriate action based on her answer.

Storm in a teacup.
To politically correct.
Football is a emotive game ,if he had called her something derogatory, but she is a woman its a fact and he probably was just a little tactless.
Do you think she could bake a cake or knit a jumper?

When we played Worcester at Kidderminster a couple of seasons ago. I shouted it's a man's game women to ref sian massey after she gave a foul, she laughed.

I was actually stood near a female Barrow fan who occasionally posts on here, I don't think she was bothered.

Hang me.

At least we can blame a woman for our poor start to the season. We'll be letting em on here next. ;)
