Thanks Mark I hadn't seen that in years.

I've thought for a long time it would be useful if someone could put all the links to video highlights into one thread on the forum so they are easily accessible. I'll start a new thread now.

Not sure why you were surprised - sharp, keen, unpredictable, prepared to have a go, full of endeavour.

I like the - possibly apocryphal - story of Rogan, a student at the time, being bought a cooked chicken in Asda by Paul Jones "each time" he scored a goal so he could go home with something to eat in his student house.

Also enjoyed the Gav Knight somersault celebrations when he scored.

Gav Knight was kind enough to answer a few questions for the National Supporters Club newsletter a few years ago when I was editor:

In the second of an occasional series, I got in touch with former fan favourite, Gavin Knight, to see what memories he had of playing for Barrow and to find out what he is up to these days. Gavin is currently
playing for Bayswater City who are midtable in the Western Australia State league.

You joined us from North Ferriby in the summer of 2003. What did you know about us before you signed?

I’d only really heard of Barrow through Steve Ridley and Lee Turnbull. They both said it was great club. A major factor for me signing was playing in front of a big crowd and testing myself in a high standard of football.

You made the step up with ease, scoring 20 in your first season and playing a huge part in the team that finished 3rd and won the Presidents Cup. What are your memories of that time?

I have a lot of great memories of my first season because it was a successful season for both the club and myself. All the goals I scored were special to me so I can’t pick any out but the best match was the derby game against Workington in the 1st leg of the Presidents Cup final. Winning the Presidents cup was undoubtedly the highlight of that season.

You formed a productive partnership with Neil Campbell. What was he like to play with?

Cammy and I had a great partnership, we worked well together. He was good in the air and I just did his running! I enjoyed playing with Taz (Neil Tarrant) too.

In the following two seasons the team was weakened by budget cuts and, as a result, manager Lee Turnbull came under a lot of pressure from the fans. Was it difficult to play under that added pressure?

The budget cuts never affected me or the rest of the lads. I never played for the money, I played because I love football and I loved playing for Barrow. The fans had their opinions on the manager
and the team but we just played our games and gave 100%.

In your final season Phil Wilson took over from Lee Turnbull and it seemed like he never gave you much of a chance – how was it from your perspective?

Phil and I got on at first but then we had a fallout and some home truths were exchanged. Not long after that he brought in his son, Kyle, and said he would be the best striker in the league. I knew I
wouldn’t get too many more chances in the team after that.

You had an excellent relationship with the fans – I remember seeing you signing autographs for some local kids at 1am outside some bar or other. How did you feel about your relationship with the fans?

I loved the Barrow fans, they are the best supporters I’ve played in front of. I never wanted to leave the club and I would love to thank the supporters for supporting me whilst I played for the
Bluebirds.

Before your move to Australia you were banging the goals in for Buxton. How was life at Silverlands? Scott Maxfield and Steve Ridley are there too – how are they doing?

My time at Buxton was great - Maxi and Rids are great, they both have kids now, Maxi’s got a girl and Rids a boy. They are both still playing there and I speak to Rids every week.

At the time of writing you’re playing for Bayswater City in the WA Premier League – how did that move come about? How’s it going over there?

My move to Perth was through a friend who invited me over to play for his Sunday team. I took the offer up and came over and started banging the goals in to extent that I got called up to play for Western Australia’s state team which involved a tour of Malaysia. Then I got call from Bayswater and I ended up signing for them. We had a good season in the league which I’d say is the same sort of standard as the Conference and I was getting looked at by Perth Glory who play in the top division over here. I’m enjoying life in Perth and playing soccer over here. I’m still acclimatising to the way of life but
I’ve met a lot of new friends.

Do you still do your somersault celebration?

I started to do somersaults at first then the manager said I had to stop it in case I got injured. I just plank now haha!

Do you still keep an eye on our results? Did you watch the 2010 FA Trophy final on TV?

Yes, I look out for Barrow’s results and watched the Trophy final over here on Setanta. I was so happy for a great club like Barrow to win the Trophy. I hope they go on to win more honours and
even get into Football League

I always remember the header he buried in the last minute to silence the Alty lot.

Nice to see both Whittaker and Knight still have a lot of love for the club.
Tarrant was good for us.
Also Mark Dobie scored a few. Andy Green worked well with Morton.

Should have had 10 that night, seriously. But we started making loads of changes from the hour mark onwards and took our foot off their throats. Considering they tanked us 9.1 way back when, this was THE opportunity to revenge that forever and we let it slip.
Weird to walk out of a 6 goal win thinking 'if only.'

Found a few names/stats via Wikipedia. Apologies if some have already been posted (or aren't 100% accurate!):

James Bell (1911-1917) - 146 appearances - 78 goals
Jim Collins (1947-1955) - 295 appearances - 53 goals
Andy McLaren (1951-1954) - 155 appearances - 52 goals
Jimmy Mulholland (1965-1969) - 134 appearances - 47 goals
Jackie Robertson (1958-1962) - 156 appearances - 47 goals
Barry Diamond (1977-1980 + 1982-1984) - 109 appearances - 43 goals
George King (1950-1952) - 86 appearances - 35 goals

And my favourite (for the name):

Fred Ferrari (1928-1929) - 26 appearances - 14 goals

At Barrow, Ferrari had the most prolific season of his career with a total of 14 goals in 26 league appearances. On 23 February 1929, he scored a hat-trick in a league match against Nelson and the Nelson directors soon pursued him. In June that year, Ferrari signed for Nelson for a fee of £85 and went straight into the first-team, making his debut on 31 August 1929 in the 2–2 draw with Southport.

Did Diamond have two spells with us then? I thought he just had the one glorious season before naffing off to Rochdale.

Came to us originally as a defender didn't he? I am sure I read that somewhere.

Definitely. But I only learned of that years later myself.

Remember him at Runcorn/Winsford (not sure which). Neil Morton was sent off for throwing the ball away after conceding a dubious free kick. AG walked accross to the young lad involved and said ' You and me the next time you get the ball,OK' The lad went into hiding for the rest of the game. They were a classic pairing.
