Re: Keep/Move on/Meh
Point is Boylie that its pretty clear that our squad size has been too small to mount a serious challenge. Every meaningful stat since January seems to show this. So replacing half a squad of 17-18 with a slightly better half will still not deliver a play-off place since no matter how good those players are unless they all remain fit, don't get suspended and maintain their form throughout a 46 game season. So when Paul Casson claims that he is committed to building a squad worthy of promotion next season (and I take him at his word) I'm assuming it will have to be bigger than this season. Therefore he will have to budget more if he's serious.
In practice we will lose some players obviously. I don't expect Hannah and Effiong or Coughlan to be there. However, whilst my comments were a bit tongue in cheek, some of the players that people want to ditch would actually have made decent squad players if they had not been required to play 35+ games in a season.

Stuart Tomlinson is he the guy that played in the trophy final in 2010 or is it a different one as I was told he was earning millions in the U.S. Wrestling, mind you my info came from a very dodgy source, come on Ted own up.

All correct. But he is know back in England playing football. Last time I checked for Altrincham.optomisticsupporter wrote:Stuart Tomlinson is he the guy that played in the trophy final in 2010 or is it a different one as I was told he was earning millions in the U.S. Wrestling, mind you my info came from a very dodgy source, come on Ted own up.
Re: Keep/Move on/Meh
Pretty sure he wasn't earning millions, grappling with a few oiled up blokes in the American equivalent of working men's clubs...
Re: Keep/Move on/Meh
I don't really accept that argument since Cox would have been well aware of his style of play when he pushed the boat out (allegedly) to sign him.popsider wrote:I believe Hannah unfortunately will go as he does not fit cox's style of play
Think he was unlucky in that Bennett took is chance when it came and Hannah couldn't force his way back into the team.
THE NORTHERN WAY
Re: Keep/Move on/Meh
Our problem this season has been the lack of squad depth and quality, we've had numbers but not good enough replacements.
Players to keep and build a team around for me would be Livesey, Beeley, Anderton, Williams and Harrison.
I wouldn't necessarily look to get rid of the rest but I think they are all replaceable.
A mention to Bennett who has a decent first season at this level and always puts a shift in, I think he will improve.
We need to get a good commanding keeper in, a centre back, good winger and someone with a presence in midfield. Hughes isn't a winger and whilst you can't fault his work rate, I did expect a bit from him after a decent start. Probably not mobile enough to play in the middle though unless part of a three.

Former Port Vale goalkeeper Stuart Tomlinson has been released from his WWE contract, he confirmed on his Twitter account.
The Cheshire-born star signed a contract with WWE in December 2013 and wrestled for the company's NXT brand under the ring name Hugo Knox.
Tomlinson appeared once on WWE television, teaming with Tucker Knight to face former NXT Tag Team Champions Simon Gotch and Aiden English. He was on route to the big time with wwe training brand. Something must have happened.

Re: Keep/Move on/Meh
Diarra, Anderton and particularly Williams are likely to move on.
Beeley is good going forward, but poor in defence - too small and too often out of position.
Coughlin is as good a second choice keeper as we could hope for, behind Dixon.
Effiong simply can't play at this level, and is on a season loan anyway. Similarly Rowe.
Hannah excellent, but not if Cox plays the same way as before. Can't understand why he was bought.
Hughes is a pudding. Just not naturally fit enough.
If it's going to be the same style next season we need height, fitness and strength. Also someone who can throw flat and long into the opponent's penalty area.
Wingers redundant again, and poor crowds because of the lump it up style.

He is back playing football, signed for Alty in march 2017 so injury must be o/k at least at this level. Tommo moved on.

Think Effiong's on a contract to end of season with an option for next.

Re: Keep/Move on/Meh
I'd be surprised if we sold either Diarra or Williams
Re: Keep/Move on/Meh
Far too soon to be writing off Effiong in my opinion, not every player is going to hit the ground running in the manner that Williams did.
How many appearances has he actually made? I can recall one start against Eastleigh, but other than that, he's come off the bench occasionally for maybe 15/20 minutes.

Re: Keep/Move on/Meh
How anyone can say Turnbull falls into the keep section baffles me, he has not commanded a single match that I can recall!! All about opinions though i suppose!
