Elsden seams very slow unfortunately - whether that's a result of pre-season fitness or his injury last season i'm not sure.
Hird is vastly experienced and judging by the games so far it might be a case of needing a young quick centre half with Hird rather than an experienced one with Granite.

Gonna stick my neck out at a top four finish. Why? Because the gaffer wants it, he won't settle for anything less than a team of grafters and go getters. That's obvious to see! The team I think is very capable, only a couple of weeks into pre season and things are steadily improving and if we can get the goals, we can surely aim for the dizzy heights!!
The club as a whole including support and floaters seem to be in a better state mentally too, there is belief, there is desire.. it's up to us to simply make our ground the place where people get punished!! Away from home last year was a massive improvement, lack of luck and goalscoring prowess was our Achilles heel..
I can feel it in my bones my old achy bones that we can achieve great things
I can't wait to get into the season, I sincerely hope that we the support start making some good noise and get right behind the lads.. get the young UN's to see what a rocking HS is really like..

Oh if you come from barrow....

I'm going to go for a very optimistic 3rd, we will finish higher and will be better than we were last season, in terms of other teams I don't think Stockport will be pulling up any trees, Hartlepool are my dark (or maybe not so dark) horses to go up this season, obviously Fylde have a fantastic squad now but will be a lot of pressure on them.

We need a dominant centre back who can play football.
I don’t think Granite or Elsdon fit the bill. Hird is best of the current squad but he has no pace . I think the manager recognises this - hence Trialists - but not seen a good one yet. The season I think depends on this being sorted- all successful teams need a solid defence otherwise confidence can quickly disappear

Seems to be a clamour on the Blackpool forum to dump Nick Anderton who played a number of first team games at centre back at the tail end of last season. Under new ownership and with a bit of cash seems they may be looking higher than ex non-league players.

My heart says we'll be up there and competing as the gaffer wants us to and predicts a finish of 4th.

My head says we'll improve on last year and ride the rollercoaster, possibly peaking in the play offs at some point before fading away and finishing 7th or 8th.

Given that the league looks stronger on paper next season, I don't think finishing just above where we did last season can be seen as stalled progress.

Ask again after 5 games.

You are going off names on paper. All perception.

Ask me again when we've got someone who will take on the responsibility of actually shooting at goal!

We didn't have anyone who'd shoot at goal last season and we still finished 11th. This season we'll have better quality players who wont shoot at goal.

It's Evatt's responsibility to get them doing it!
