Didn't know Dave Martin but it seems he has done a massive amount of work over the years to help the kids in the community. These people are few and far between. Your family should be extremely proud of you Dave. RIP.

Nice lad was Dave. Have known him since that darkest of days in 1972-he used to live on the corner of Ainslie street and Devonshire Road in his younger days and could be seen in the Tally Ho now and again where his dad, Dave senior also drank. I remember him working in Bowater Scott also for many years.
RIP.

It says a lot for the modesty and humility of people like this that they just get on and do what they do without looking for reward or recognition. I've never heard of him but how many lives, in a good way, he must have affected. RiP.

I don’t think I ever met Dave although I have heard of him in passing conversations a few times, it sounds like he was a true gentleman.

I hope his family get to read some of the glowing comments people who knew him have posted on here.

The club put a condolence statement on facebook and his neice thanked everyone for their kind comments and said he had passed away peacefully and was talking about Barrow football from his hospital bed. Faithful to the end.

She has also let me know that the funeral will be live streamed, so i shall ask for a link to post in here for those who wish to watch and pay their respects.

It wouldbe fitting if we could line the cemetery hill the same as we did for Brian Athersmith. Social distancing of course.

Tragic news of the passing of Dave. We were good friends for over 40 years. He was a man of many qualities and will be sadly missed by the people who knew him. R.I.P. mate.

Dave's funeral is to take place on Thursday 5th November at 1pm at the Trevelyan Chapel on Dalkeith Street.

Numbers are restricted due to COVID but there are some spaces if anyone is available and would like to attend to pay their respects and represent BAFC. If you do, please drop me a PM and I can put you in touch with the family to confirm attendance and numbers.

Sadly i'm working that day but I'll watch the online stream, details of which I will post when I have them also.

Another message from Dave's family:
At 12.30pm his hearse will leave the Trevelyan. They will drive up the A590, turning onto Bank Lane and then onto Middlefield, going past the shops and community centre. It will continue along Schneider Rd, onto Wilkie Rd, past Barrow AFC, and back to the Trevelyan.

I also have the link and password for the live stream of his funeral, if anyone would like to watch it please PM me and I'll pass it on.
