Fanzone Closed Till Bolton Match

Take your point but not sure what the full capacity at fanzone is inside and out and given ko time not everyone still on furlough so staffing could be problem as assume they are interviewing for catering staff.would like an update from our new hospitality manager.

As I’m quite interested in this thread I’ve temporarily unblocked PerthBluebird and he makes very valid points. When you get a set up like HOBs (nothing against them but at the end of the day they ARE a club run by volunteers) selling that many places as soon as they go up for grabs you have to think that this has been a huge opportunity wasted for us as a club to bring in at least some cash.
Tuesday would’ve been rammed, not only that you have a group of people you could’ve been selling merchandise to….the shirts were launched last night, what a time to be selling them in a Fanzone to a captive audience.

We never do it tho, remember two visits to fc united they had stalls selling stuff everywhere, it's always an effort to spend money with Barrow AFC. No doubt when the shirts go on sale on Monday there will be technical problems on the website. They need a pop up stall selling merchandise in the town centre in the run up to the start of the season. Or even a shop in town selling stuff on behalf of the club for a small commission.

If we can back in and get capacity crowds this season we need to make sure we take as much money as we can, I've said for years our match day spend per head must be one of the lowest in which ever league we play in. Hope things will be much improved when it all gets underway again.

Reading the CEOs latest update it appears the club simply don't have the staff yet in place to sufficiently mange the Fanzone on Tuesday. Recruiting staff in hospitality ATM is not easy. He makes the point its a shame the trust are not able to continue through to the end of the Euros. That to me implies a lack of people willing to volunteer was a major factor in the Trust handing it over to the club along with the detailed document compiled by Steve Herbert outlining suggestions and other enhancements to enhance the facility. In a nutshell it appears its simply a staffing issue that needs rectifying hopefully by the Bolton friendly it will be sorted.

Pop up stores in the popular side car park selling merch and snacks on match days would be an idea. Lots of people in that area who probably wouldn’t be arsed walking round to the shop or not have time to. Very cheap to make, do it off a paste table. If we don’t do it, Sky will.

As soon as before you go through and once on the other side of a turn style you should be bombarded with merch , programmes before you come in sold outside the gate , on entry while your wallet or purse is out raffle tickets , scarfs , beanie hats , caps easy quick sells nothing that needs to be tried on one fit for all you would make and absolute fortune. I am very surprised that nobody not connected to the club is nt flogging merch outside the ground.

All these good ideas have surfaced in some way down the years under all the previous owners. None have ever took off.

The biggest problem has always been a drive behind getting them up and running and then resourcing but now we have a management team in place some of these ideas can hopefully be looked into again and developed

Didn’t express meself right.Was meaning maybe we had volunteer staffing issues cos people being called back to work as things open up.In respect to comments re sales I ran a club shop at lower league level for approx 18 years.I started off with a hold-all full of scarves caps etc and I used to walk round our ground (small crowds) flogging stuff and then we progressed to taking over a table in the bar before and after games and then to the dizzy heights of having our own wooden shed in the ground which was open every home match for progs and merchandise.I think maybe if there was some small base in ground match days some of the items would be sold to people who go straight in the turnstiles and don’t visit crossbar.We also had a glass fronted cabinet in bar displaying our tankards badges etc etc advertising what was for sale.Appreciate we sold a lot of old and new progs then and now it’s digital stuff but May be worth advertising these things in ground and crossbar.We only reached beazer. Premier level but we had our own account and made a profit every year.Every little helps as they say.

Nothing a football league club shouldn't easily manage them.

Yep, I have to agree with you and Perth.
Massive opportunity gone whilst all the others are raking it in.
If we can't get volunteers or even 6 paid staff to open the cross bar how are we going to cope with 2 bars, 4 corporate rooms, and numerous food outlets.
Then there's programmes and staffing the club shop.
Guess the 2 new lads will be busy and right on it for the Bolton fixture getting staff in place and organising everything.
Looking forward to seeing the new area busy

Programme sellers are no more we are trust volunteers but the club have decided they are going to be sold from the club shop, food huts and hopefully the fanzone as they are wanting to go cashless in the ground we are still doing half time draw tickets

I went to Salford the other year and they had a metal container with merchandise in. Surely we could get a container off steels in return for some advertising?

I think that's the one in the away end which acts as a bar/serving hut
