Already mentioned here a few are suggesting we should get rid several players if we succumb to relegation .Moving lock stock and barrel to Barrow probably isn't on most players minds when they sign for us and never will be I would suggest it would actively put lots of players off joining us
When the club was last in the Football League they owned several houses which were used by players and their families. It is not unusual in any job for a family to move to the area where the chief breadwinner lives.

The present manager has already started to engage with the local community unlike the previous ones, but I don't think long term he is the answer, and we should go for an ambitious manager from the National League wanting to make the step up to further his career, rather than someone at the tail end of theirs.
Didn't the Yank (Jeeze, I can't remember his name ) say at the presentation at The Forum - shortly before taking over - that his desire was to have several players living in Barrow. I thought, at the time, that it was an excellent idea. It creates a sense of loyalty to the club, the town and the community.

I remember back in our old EFL days seeing the likes of Dave Storf and Roy McCarthy walking through Dalton Road whilst I was hopping into Wells Record Store to buy the latest offerings from Bowie and Bolan. I'd like to see those days return.

True. Bowie and Bolan are both dead. But their legacy lives on :D

Bowie and Bolan were stars of the 70s, Storf and McCarthy were stars of the 60s.

If the club were to move its training location back to Barrow (or nearby area), we’d have to accept that is likely to impact on the quality of our playing staff and we’re back playing the likes of Workington & Lancaster.

Personally, I have no issues with training in a more accessible location, with a greater pool of players available to us. It’s worked for us previously, and we’ve had plenty of success in recent times.

Someone mentioned it earlier on in the thread - it’s establishing a permanent training base which is the key thing. I believe this is one of the reason’s we appointed a DoF. This season’s arrangements have been nothing more than a cluster-[SwearFilter] and we’ve now ended up playing on some community fields in Bury.

"community fields Bury" makes it sound like it's another Tummer Hill fields setup.

It isn't.

It's where Bury trained I think. So not Tummerhill.

It was what we started with pre season. Pre Cooper meltdown due to pitch.
state at that time

I hope the BoD have learned some valuable lessons in dealing with Professional Football life, We we’re too weak in letting managers pick n choose training sites which lead to us being poor relations going around cap in hand, The BoD ie the structure of the club should be firm on these things, You don’t let people who are only here 1 or 2 seasons dictate important issues like club structure, They manage the players the BoD manage the club.

Training in Barrow on Fridays should be linked to squad or selected players on rotation doing community work as another way of tieing into the local area & building the rapport.

Clubs owning players houses is a long gone scheme when players only earned a standard wage & not todays inflated wage, So no need.

I wonder how our friends in carlisle manage then? cos if they dont own houses it must be a hell of a lot of travelling for the players.

Carlisle themselves have been pretty nomadic with their training facilities.

Yep agree, the club should look to secure a longer term partnership with a suitable training location so we can put a Barrow AFC sign over the door. Back home, we already do the right thing by training the day before a match in town. Again a partnership with a local amateur club / furness college (all weather pitch?) could also help with plans for an Academy. I think we’ve allowed recent managers too much influence on the training location side and clearly hasn't helped during the course of the last two seasons.

Pretty sure Barrow AFC are hot favourites to take over Ormsgil Football Pitches. They've gone out to tender by the council at the start of the year and there's currently work ongoing to the club House such as a big clean out and roof repairs along with repairing the fences.

wouldn't that be a better location for a stadium? On my walks the other night down the canal in ulverston and thought how good Glaxo could be as a training complex, it already has a building with decent facilities and its got a fair few pitches on it. Could get it for a steal when Glaxo start selling off their assets.

"To tender", so not for sale. Why would the club want to be a tenant of the council?
Don't let the old man in.
