You say, “They are able to eject anybody misbehaving or under the influence of drink/drugs. “ which is what I think happened. The SIA appeared to have been called in to the Fleetwood crowd to deal with the trouble, which appears would be the correct protocol.Borobasedfan1 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 04, 2025 4:00 pm There are two levels of Stewards/Security. There are SIA/Door Supervisors who can both search persons and bags as agreed in the pre match briefing. They are also able to reject anybody misbehaving or under the influence of drink/drugs. These individuals have undergone training and must display their licence at all times.
The others are Stewards who's main job is Customer service this can include ticket checks, car parking, directing customers to their seats and monitoring the crowd calling in the SIA at any sign of trouble. It is not the job of Stewards to get involved in any crowd trouble
Whenever do you now see Police enter the crowd at football matches in recent times. It’s always done by Stewards first.
You may say, “Well, why are the Police inside the ground then?” I would suspect, primarily that it is to obtain evidence of any criminality, to later arrest, charge and take the offender to Court. Remember, they are on Private property, but they could still become involved if there is a threat of serious harm to anyone and/or to prevent serious damage. It appears that those overseeing the incident felt the SIA’s were capable of dealing with it.
Interesting, and thanks for putting your views forward and clearing up the position of the Stewards.
[Just to clarify at the sign of trouble it should be SIA/Door Supervisors who sort it out and not Stewards
