Re: Ground maintenance area
You will become a leper on the social scene Ian if you continue like this.
What a fantastic effort you have made this season. What are those pills called again?

So that's why they told me to meet them at the Friars!!Holkerbird wrote:You will become a leper on the social scene Ian if you continue like this.
The easy bit is the organising Elaine, it wouldn't have happened without people giving time, tools or donations of money.Holkerbird wrote:What a fantastic effort you have made this season. What are those pills called again?

Re: Ground maintenance area
Not a great day football wise yesterday but a fantastic one if you happen to want things off people
I was out from 1:00 yesterday so little worse for wear by 11:00 so apologies if I miss anything (or anyone) out on this as a lot of the day seemed a little erm, hazy.
Vic (?) has offered us a welding machine & some other bits & bobs.
A lad came up & is looking into making a very nice donation to the M A which atm is still being doubled by Exile, he also wants a plaque on the HSE.
Someone else (beer/memory
) has said they have a box of tools for us, so if your reading this can you PM or reply on here please, if you dont come on here......I dunno.
I think someone else has offered a small donation but again I really cant remember who that was (getting embarrassing now)
The best news was on the plaques for the re-furbed HSE, we wanted eight but ten would've been better....by the time I'd walked out the ground (and I really have racked my brains trying to remember who wanted one this morning) We have eleven, thats in six days!!
Theres still another two thinking on it, I know I've said each person will get about 20 foot so I'm hoping that all these people wont mind if I have to knock it down to about 15 foot to accommodate the couple of extras. We're now hoping that the extra £300 (up to now) will cover the cost of the flashing & screw caps.
Most of these are a promise so I don't actually have the money yet but I'm sure they're all genuine offers.
It still amazes me how people can hand over money & tools to a complete stranger & not ask for receipts off us, it really is fantastic & just shows what can be done.
My wife said I cant talk about it anymore in the house

Re: Ground maintenance area
Ive got the wood coming monday so I,ll get cracking on the new turnstile doors for the popular side turnstiles at home so can do a bit most nights........also as the weather getting a bit better, when are we going to get the old sheets off the holker end....will need a few bodies helping on this one as around 50-60 8x4 sheets to rip down and either scrap or salvage the better ones(maybee make a couple of programme booths from the better stuff)......also look at the woodwork behind and prepare for sheeting which will include cutting the huge old roof rafter stubs off
Following that... once done, order from the best possible price or offer of trade price which I believe weve had and orders the materials
.
I also tried for a quote for palisade fencing from a local fencing company to replace the "stockade" segregation which is there now but a bit expensive at £1000 supply or £1400 suply and fit so will look at alternatives or your best suggestons on here...come on give us some ideas.
On a smaller job, we need either a 300 x 600 x 22mm double glazed glass or just a piece of glass that size any thickness(will wedge in).
This is for the floodlight room window which has been smashed for a while.

Re: Ground maintenance area
Ian IN LINE GUTTERING (Louie Richards) has said he will sort the leaking roof on the First Aid dugout following my meeting with Snortypig on Sat. We are thinking of appearing on 60 Minute Makeover on t.v.
After my meeting in my Interior Designer mode I sprinted across the hallowed turf(much to the surprise of the Braintree players to see a 71 yr old run faster than any Barrow AFC player) to take up my duties as helper to Margaret Cooksey, chef de cuisine for the directors.
A busy but fun filled day which seemed to be enjoyed by all in the Xbar.

Thanks for the update Elaine, it's bleak enough in that dugout without water dripping in as well. All your efforts vare very much appreciated, thanks to all involved.Holkerbird wrote:Ian IN LINE GUTTERING (Louie Richards) has said he will sort the leaking roof on the First Aid dugout following my meeting with Snortypig on Sat. t'was good to meet you on Saturday and I can vouch for your "sprint" across the pitch. If you'd have brought yer boots you'd've been in with a shout of being in the starting XI.
'ere luv....does this smell like chloroform to you??

Re: Ground maintenance area
Another bit of the memory came back today, Peter Nichols has paint brushes to give to us.....deffo no DIY on the cards when he retires in a couple of weeks! Peter has also offered to become a regular at the ground on various days throughout the summer as did another bloke I was speaking to. Steve Leonards Dad phoned me today with a blow torch for removing paint (although Mrssenorita will probably use it to do his toasties) another useful tool to add to what we've already got.
There will be a visit to the ground this coming Sunday for anyone that can make it (9:00 till 12:00) Massive job of starting to take down & store or scrap the old plywood on the HSE, I heard Dave Ayres hid a fifty pound note behind one of the panels & it's finders - keepers if that helps persuade anyone
Could again do with the ever elusive trailers if anyone can help out on that.
We'll also be carrying on with the cladding of the pop side turnstiles.
Neil will be again trying to finish the lighting in the MA after a few problems lately, he'll also be doing a little bit of electrical work in the away directors rooms.
Also bodies needed for moving bit's & bobs from the stewards area to the M A.
Plenty going on for anyone who wants to turn up, I think there's four so far -Neil, Tommy R, John M, & myself I would also imagine biggest-fans will be there getting his litter fix & hopefully Alan W.
The more the better.
