Re: Targets For January
Trouble is most teams in the country are on the lookout for strikers, and they are dearer in this window. The direactors have done so much for this club, but we must remember that they can only put in so much money.
Re: Targets For January
I know we have a budget and maybe some of these are out of reach price wise or is it a case of Cooper just not in for these types of players. I’m all for who we’ve brought in but was hoping to balance it with some experience.
Still searching for the Young Soul Rebels

Yep. He was the name I shouted out a couple of weeks ago. I reckon he just needs a fresh start and now it's a lost opportunity.

Re: Targets For January
I’ve no idea where we go from here regards strikers. As hard as he worked on Tuesday I just don’t think Harris is going to get us the goals we need. He reminds me very much of a young Grant Holt in both his appearance, challenging for headers and closing down defenders but without looking like getting the goals. The fact some other L2 teams have managed to bag an experienced forward, proves they were there but may also prove the point Cooper makes about how hard it is to get players to come to Barrow, hence only managing to get a couple of young lads in. I don’t believe for one minute that we haven’t made enquiries or even made offers for some of those who have gone elsewhere. If we needed to take the U23 route then I think we should have gone back for Jack Vale from Blackburn again. We also need a midfielder who can be a bit creative and pick a pass through the middle as our build up play can be read like a book. (I wish the lottery numbers were as easy to predict). All this is of course easier said than done and it may mean paying a decent fee for a couple but something needs doing in the next 4 days and quick.

Re: Targets For January
Cooper has always said that he doesn't want an old hand looking for a final payday. I know what he means, we've had plenty of those in the past, but there must be some out there who are prepared to work for what they earn. Like Calvin Andrew last season for one.
EDIT: I posted this comment before I read Lancaster Branch/Spirit's contributions on another thread. So, yeah, what they said.

Aaron Amadi-Holloway on loan from Burton Albion if you believe journalists on twitter
Re: Targets For January
14 goals in 194 games
Re: Targets For January
Predictable first response.
Just for some perspective, Omar Bogle, whom several have touted on here as the answer to our goalscoring problem, has scored 19 in 106 appearances since leaving Grimsby (source Wikipedia). 3 in 27 appearances at Doncaster, his last club. Not exactly prolific. Hartlepool is his 9th club since leaving Grimsby in 2017.
We ain't going to find a ready-made striker who is banging in goals with a 33% or better strike rate.

Re: Targets For January
Sliding further down the pecking order at Wrexham despite just signing a new contract. Paying 300k for a L1 striker, signing an experienced full back already this week with rumour of a 'big' midfield signing today. Looks like he'll be getting bench splinters at best.
Re: Targets For January
Played most of his football in League 1 apart from recently in Australia and India for Robbie Fowlers' teams. As for the goalscoring statistic obsession Paul Mullin last seasons runaway L2 top scorer had barely figured in the scoring charts earlier. Or Quigs before he joined us for that matter.

I'd have him back in a shotSKIPPER wrote: ↑Fri Jan 28, 2022 2:28 pmSliding further down the pecking order at Wrexham despite just signing a new contract. Re: Targets For January
IF it is the guy from Burton or someone else ,this might sound daft but it`s not all about the goals it`s having someone whose played at this level and could help young Harris develop his game because he needs someone to support him because if not we`ll destroy his confidence etc.
