Re: Holker End/New Years Day
there is no reason for the away fans not be in the west terrace?? just becuase the directors dont want to walk past them....
Re: Holker End/New Years Day
I personally would not like to be sat in the family zone with what went on at the Holker St end today happening right next to me and my family.
Putting away fans on the West terrace worked in the past but it cuts the clubs facilities in two if you put the away fans right between the two structures that are used heavily on match days. Right now the corner of Holker St / Wilkie Rd corner of the ground is the only practical option for safety and prevents away supporters disrupting the clubs match day operations and keeps the fans completely separated which is the whole point of segregation. It was disappointing that a barrier could not be erected for todays game as in previous seasons and allow home support onto the HSE but given what happened it could have led to worse.
Long term something needs to be thought of. Maybe if funds allowed a terrace could be built from the holker St end to the main stand and that could be for away support. That would allow a portion of the main stand to be given over to away fans as some competitions require and would keep the away fans together and off the Holker St end. Just an idea.

Re: Holker End/New Years Day
I honestly don't want to pry but did you really think the behaviour of the Wukkies was that bad? They were not too bad vocally first half, bit aggressive but it's a derby! There was one lad in white who was desperate to get arrested and second half someone a bit brainless who clearly had no idea the police would watch him let a smoke off as we scored
So.. slightly ill garbed wannabes who at first backed their side then chucked it? yes
Scary hooligans..No

The things you mention are pretty unacceptable anywhere, people that revel in that kind of behaviour are nothing but trouble. Why should we accept it at a football ground, we wouldn't accept it at anywhere else. We go there and pay to be entertained, that was not entertainment and if I had been right next to it I would have left the ground, just as many left the ground at Atherstone. It was obviously not the same as Atherstone. They still caused enough trouble to be thrown out and if home fans had been on the HSE it could have sparked a few of the home clowns off as well and it could have been a much bigger problem. Some people would just call it banter but it's very dangerous banter.
Yes it was a handful of numpties on New Years day, but unfortunately it is always the vocal and thoughtless minorities that affect everyone else. Society spends a lot of time making rules an regulations because the actions a mindless minorities and those rules curtail the activities of the peaceful majority.

You would have left the ground because some fans looked aggressive and let a bit of smoke off? It was nothing like Atherstone don't even use that as an example.K_BFC wrote:Answered your own question really.barrowaberdeen wrote:I honestly don't want to pry but did you really think the behaviour of the Wukkies was that bad?

It's non-league football not a music concert very rarely will you be entertained go watch a premier league team if you want to be entertained.K_BFC wrote:We go there and pay to be entertained, that was not entertainment.
I want Barrow to win if that means boring 1-0s I would take that every day of the week than lose an entertaining 4-3.
Re: Holker End/New Years Day
There was flares, fireworks AND smoke at the last music concert I went to..... Can't believe I didn't walk out.barrowfan_chris wrote: It's non-league football not a music concert

Flares, fireworks and smoke..... Forgot walking out I'm surprised you didn't call the police and report the crime of the century.
The reason crowds are falli in non league nationally is because people come expecting to see the next messi, when realistically they are more likely to see a battling 1-0 win!

Re: Holker End/New Years Day
Anyone who was disturbed by events at the NYD encounter with our neighhhhbours would have had a heart attack during the days when both clubs were in the Football League – that was proper full on violent disorder which would be all over the national media these days. Not that I condone such events - that's just the way it was.
Their ‘boy in white’ must have got a Stone Island top off his Auntie Derek for Christmas and we were all going to see it. Anyone else notice he had a full Irmscher body kit on his tumbrel outside the ground? Flash little twerp.

We will foller the soccer, over land and sea...

Re: Holker End/New Years Day
I was not scared, read my (hypothetical) post again you seem to have got the wrong end of the stick. Not soft just down to personal experience. I've witnessed someone being seriously injured by someone else letting off a bit of smoke, they didn't mean to cause injury but it happened, so don't talk as it is harmless. I'm sure your not trying to but you come across as condoning it. It's not harmless, having such items in your possession in that situation is against the law for a reason. I've also seen perfectly harmless situations involving crowds of emotionally charged people go bad in a way that make Atherstone look like a picnic. I should have elaborated but that is why I mentioned Atherstone. If you have read my post again you'll see I also stated that Atherstone was not the same. You seem highly emotive with that being mentioned and rightly so, it was shocking. Maybe you can understand that I'm highly emotive regarding the use of such devices given my experience.barrowfan_chris wrote:You would have left the ground because some fans looked aggressive and let a bit of smoke off? This threads discussion point is about the away fans been given the HSE. The situation I described was hypothetical. All I was trying to convey is that if it had happened on the west terrace, where some are suggesting the away fans should be, it could potentially have involved home support. It would most likely have been those in the family zone on the end of the main stand had the Workington fan responsible been of the mind to throw the smoke bomb, and it only takes one to do it. Had I (hypothetically) been in the family zone with my family and that occurred on the west terrace, my family could have been in danger had it gone any further. As it was, on new years day they were no where near any home support and were isolated on the HSE and could only cause harm to those stood with them, so I did not leave nor was I scared.
You can shot me down for being protective of my family, but I am responsible for them. In short all I really meant to say in light of the thread topic, is that had we been there in the main stand with that situation right next to us I would have left.
Had a family experienced that they would possibly never set foot in Holker St. again and the club would be the loser. Putting the away fans on the HSE was the best that could be done. Shame they did not manage to erected a proper barrier in time, home support could have gone behind the goal and stood opposite them if they wish.
Premier league football is sterile and becoming more soulless by the year. I've watched non-league football all my life, I prefer to watch real people playing football. I stopped going to premier games many years ago.barrowfan_chris wrote:It's non-league football not a music concert very rarely will you be entertained go watch a premier league team if you want to be entertained.

Re: Holker End/New Years Day
I've no real problem with putting the away support at the Wilkie rd / Holker St corner as long as the segregation area doesn't extend beyond the start of the penalty area. This area could easily handle 200+ people.
What [SwearFilter] me off is the No Go area between the players tunnel and the crossbar pathway. Why this roped off area can't simply be move 15 foot nearer the tunnel, thus still providing a void area and giving some protection from the weather for supporters is beyond me.
I brought this up at the last AGM and was told by TK & JM that this would be looked into. I have asked these people on numerous occasions since and still had no answer. Maybe Peter you could update us on this!
