What do people class as a 'cult' player? The majority of these seem to be 'bloke I just remembered the name of' players. Mickey Waller wasn't one - he had one good season (player of the year I think) and then went shit and left. That's not cult status, more like non-league standard. Likewise, Billy Anthony and Wayne Bullimore (and I'm sure more mentioned on here) weren't cult players, they were just pretty good ones.

Just for the sheer amount of travelling involved but I do remember at Grimsby away when he was encouraging our fans to keep a hold of the ball in added time rather than give it back to him, think he was really quite endearing.

Alhosk yeah you're right.
But I suppose people remember players for different reasons and have some sort of affinity with them, which makes them cult in their eyes. Kind of like beauty is in the eye of beholder and all that.

If cult means totally useless, you're right on both counts.

Who was that really, really old striker we signed on loan towards the end of our first season back in the conference in 2008/09? I don't think he qualifies as a cult player but was trying to remember who he was when I was trying to get to sleep last night, a proper random player.

I saw Bish put Grant Holt in a locker in the changing room away at Gateshead, Holty's arms were black and blue from the previous encounter with Bish. That was the same fixture where Nicky Pev turned up with a clothes rail full of suits trying to flog them to us poor, naive ressies!
