Re: Ryan Yates - Worth a cheeky enquiry ?
The time, effort, love & resources the Cassons are investing in Barrow AFC should indicate to everyone that they are here for the foreseeable future, PC Has even said his lad is being groomed to take over eventually.
Business folk tend to view thing 2 ways, Short & long term goals, You can not do one without the other, The commonsense practicable approach taken so far is impressive, PC in the short term is investing on the pitch while spending some on the aging infrastructure to keep it limping along, He has already said he regrets all the very early talk of ground re-development as now he probably understands better the way football & football finance works.
The costs of running a competing N C Premier side hardly differs from a L2 side, Travel, Overnighters, Insurances, Players wages etc But L2 clubs receive an annual 1 Million per season payout by the FA while Conf clubs get less than 100k also factor in the 2 Cup competitions where these clubs chances of playing a higher league side & the payday that comes with it increases 10 fold compared to clubs in our league & probably more important in the shorter term is the Re-development Grants to get your ground up to scratch, Several Millions are available usually with the said club either matching the offer or paying up to 50% etc.
It appears PC is trying this approach & who bl@@dly wouldn't if it were your hard earned.
He isn't trying the FGR/Eastleigh method of throwing crazy money around on mercenaries he's more sensible in our approach, Bring in a Manager with pedigree in unearthing cheap raw diamonds and polish them into players & a gaffer who produces team moral & a desire to win, Yes its costly but not as costly as the other approach & it can bare fruit, Our crowds has been too slow to rise, but they are rising, we really should see several 2k gates in the new year, This Cup run has already brought in around 200K To the kitty, beat Dale & *Treble/Quadruple* that, We *might* sell the odd player here & there at a huge profit margin along the way & it looks like we have the right man in place where replacements wont be an issue, We already have quality replacements sitting in the stands/bench.
Longer term, The Club's profile is changing for the better, We do community outreach stuff, We have Boys & Girls youth sides, We're Getting (Slowly) more organized behind the scenes, Creating new supporters etc etc.
All the above goes someway to being a little Sustainable, Not many clubs are Sustainable anyway are they so the job is to be as sustainable as you can while giving the fans some cheer on the pitch, SO FAR, SO GOOD.

Re: Ryan Yates - Worth a cheeky enquiry ?
Whenever a club that's pressing for the play-offs loses a couple of games there is always a core of supporters that simply shout "more players". Happened at Tranmere in the last days of Brabin. Has happened at Eastleigh all season, and is now happening at FGR. Its a classic response to Big club" failure. Our current run has avoided this happening at Barrow, but even here, expect it to raise its head when inevitably we lose a game or two. There will be a queue of people on the forum demanding more bodies.
There's absolutely no doubt that Casson and Cox are doing things in a different way to the so-called "big-boys" - who basically engage in a "look at my wad" contest. Some on the forum seem to think that our avoidance of this represents either a lack of judgement or more popularly a lack of resources. Its ironic that if you look at how the club (on the field) have progressed, there is no evidence of either. Indeed the club are probably now beginning to reap the financial benefits of really good management. I don't see how this can be thought of negatively - its a good thing. Perhaps it is the level and speed of success that itself creates the doubt.
There is no doubt however that January will be a watershed in our season. I fully expect us to lose at least one of our profile players and wouldn't be surprised if that number rose to 2. This is the way of football. Like it or not it represents the DNA of our game. We can be beneficiaries or victims but we cant stop it happening. As long as we benefit from that process, we have not failed. However, we do have a goalkeeping issue to resolve and will very probably lose Ryan Yates. We've heard good reports about the abilities of Cockerline and Panayiotou and I still expect Ross Hannah to feature as the season progresses. But we will need to bolster the squad and may not have all our preferred options available (enough time, right fit etc.) when doing so. We will almost certainly lose (in the League) in the coming weeks and this will also test the mindset of players and management when it comes to team selection and performance.
So the doubters are right in one sense. There needs to be a "stick or twist" strategy for the second half of the season and this will test Management in new ways. We will also need a modicum of luck, we will need things to go our way on occasions. But this is what we supporters and the Management team at BAFC have craved for so long. Lets not get unduly down or panic because we are at that very point we wanted to be in at this stage of the season but have got there quicker than anybody thought possible and now face additional challenges.
Time to roll out the Leicester City comparison again. If winning the Premiership was always and solely about the size of your "wad" or your squad, then Leicester would never and could never have won it. The failure of others to see beyond the end of a Chairmans wallet ultimately became a key factor in Leicester being able to sustain their challenge because so many others discounted it. Leicester had a very "tight" team, a clear sense of purpose and very astute management.
We have all of those things. So if Leicester City did it, why cant we?

It is worth noting Leicester did spend £27.5 Million on new talent that season.Suffolk Blue wrote: Time to roll out the Leicester City comparison again. The prize money and TV money for moving the previous 2 games to a Sunday comes to £82K on it's own. You've got gate money and other takings on top of that, from all 4 games, well over £100K easy. There is £67,500 up for grabs in the next round against Rochdale.Jo am back wrote:In the main a very good post Mike, though im not sure about the 200k from this cup run, cant see it being even half that.

Re: Ryan Yates - Worth a cheeky enquiry ?
Fair point a former member of this forum. I wasn't trying to suggest they were boracic - just smart in their choice of purchase (e.g. Kante). They certainly didn't have the relative purchasing potential of the London or Manchester Clubs.
Again I sense the comparison with us. We are not the poorest but neither are we by any means the richest and if were to compete in that way with the FGRs, Eastleighs and Tranmeres we would lose far more than we captured. All three of those clubs however have done things that in retrospect have not been very smart, using their funds subsequently to clean up managerial and on field mistakes. Ultimately, this may work of course. Throw enough money at the problem and eventually you will solve it, though its very wasteful and can generate a poor attitude in both players and supporters.
One thing I would suggest about Paul Casson is that whatever the extent of his resources he cant afford to throw money at the problem in that way and from what I know of him doesn't do business like that. Paul Cox thinks Casson is a "smart" guy and being able to outsmart the opposition may represent our best chance to get out of this League.

Even further
Talking of smart things, I saw a piece on North West Tonight about converting the M56 (I think) into a 'smart' motorway. This sounded rather intriguing but I was rather surprised to learn that it merely means using the hard shoulder as the inside lane. Sounded more like a 'dumb' thing to do but what do I know about the modern world?
Anyway back to phenomena that is Ryan 'Eddie' Yates...

Smart motorways? Variable speed limits, a plethora of speed cameras every few hundred yards and clueless drivers. Let's hope that the club can swing it to allow both Yates and Erlandsson to stay at Holker Street for a while longer.

So after speculating, They won the league for the 1st time ever & won the right to play CL footy again for the 1st time ever & their 15 mins mins of fame has brought them into the conscience of the whole footballing world. The Real Slim a former member of this forum wrote:It is worth noting Leicester did spend £27.5 Million on new talent that season.Suffolk Blue wrote: Time to roll out the Leicester City comparison again. By anyone's standards they not only got value for money but probably got that investment back 10 fold.

Prize Money so far.....57'000 hopefully another 67'500 on it's way
TV Money so far ......37'500 Plus whatever the Rochdale Highlights are, I heard its only 6'500 or may still be the 12'500
4 games share gate at 40% I've guesstimated its somewhere between 40/50'000
We should pull in anything from 3'500 to 4'100 for the dale game assuming we charge the standard 15 quid, minus the OAP, Kids pricing & V.A.T etc Si i will spread it as 9 quid on average means we should pull in anywhere from 13/16'000
Ideal world we tie 4-4 vs Dale & win the replay infront of a Dale full house on the TV Camera's as the winners have already drawn Manure away in the next round then its crazy time.

PC owner can do what he wants. He doesn't owe anyone anything. Without him we could be easily looking forward to the visit of Mickleover Sports on Boxing Day.
Who knows, who cares how much dosh he really has. What he's done so far has us in our best position since 1972.
We should embrace the moment and just support the team.
Repeat - we should embrace the moment and just support the team.
He doesn't owe us a new ground, or new floodlights, or more players, or anything else.
If it happens great, but no one can demand these things.
He will give what he wants, and people on here calling him because we don't have e.g. a new ground yet are just naive.
Every week PC manager speaks about the club growing, and that being the continuing intention.
I believe him because I want to, rather than fretting about what might be.
If players leave, good luck to them, they've deserved to become recognised because they've played well.

I dont disagree. Its just a misconception that Leicester won the league without spending loads.
They certainly did a once in a lifetime job but they still spent nearly £30mil

Couldn't find any other mention of Ryan? His loan period isn't up so he's still injured/virus? Granted the weather wasn't ideal today but he was still missed, would be vital for the Rochdale game, anyone know anything?
