Re: games tonight
The sad thing is we shouldn't be relying on other teams to be honest whatever happens I just want this season to end at times it's been like a [SwearFilter] soap opera we have gone from one disaster to another where it ends up who knows but there's one thing nothing that happens at this club surprises me any more!

Re: games tonight
I'm very much with you on that one Nige. So many opportunities to claw our way out wasted. So much nervous energy being used by fans trying to cheer, shout or cajole the team into getting its act together. Yet our fate has looked increasingly predictable for some time and we have kept pretty much to the script. Ironically even though we currently sit o/s the bottom 4 with a couple of games in hand, there is a weary, forlorn and rather depressed feel about the club at the moment. Whether we scrape by or as increasingly looks likely meander on to the predictable conclusion this season as an experience has been as bad as anything I've seen in a long while and worse than in previous dire years when our hanging on to NL status inevitably came to an end.blue nige wrote: ↑Wed Mar 28, 2018 7:52 pm The sad thing is we shouldn't be relying on other teams to be honest whatever happens I just want this season to end at times it's been like a [SwearFilter] soap opera we have gone from one disaster to another where it ends up who knows but there's one thing nothing that happens at this club surprises me any more!![]()
Post mortems should be saved for another month or so but the summer break cant come quickly enough as far as I'm concerned.

Re: games tonight
One more point. Having read reports of Hartlepool's victory over Bromley last night the word that resonates most about their performance was "rejuvenated". Its worth noting that despite much better news potentially about their off-the-field position, their transfer embargo has not yet been lifted so everything they've managed in the last few games has been done with a smaller squad than ours who effectively have been told to get on with it. On reflection I've made a lot of excuses about BAFC performances this season for obvious reasons but despite pulling some games away from home out of the fire, they've never for me showed the "rejuvenation" when needed that would enable them to deliver back-to-back performances. Leaving aside all other issues, there is definately something missing in the DNA of this squad something we've always demonstrated even with squads of much poorer quality. Win, lose or draw, its this factor that supporters find most difficult to accept.Suffolk Blue wrote: ↑Wed Mar 28, 2018 9:02 pmI'm very much with you on that one Nige. Re: games tonight
More than anything they seem to be without a "general" in midfield who can drive the team on throughout a game. Whether it be by tough tackling, astute passing, a calming influence, being horrible.
Hulbert, Shezza type players spring to mind.

Re: games tonight
I wonder if we could tempt Whittaker from Macclesfield seeing as how they are cash strapped (allegedly) and we have a multi-millionaire owner (allegedly). Build a team round that guy and we wouldn't go far wrong.
We will foller the soccer, over land and sea...

Re: games tonight
I think there is a big lack of leadership in the team this season which does make me worry, not only did we lose a fantastic footballer in Danny Livesey but we lost a very influential player and that sort of thing is very difficult to replace, other than Holt I don't really think any of our current squad are really leaders hence why our current captain is who it is.Suffolk Blue wrote: ↑Wed Mar 28, 2018 10:29 pmOne more point. Re: games tonight
Totally agree...and I myself came to the conclusion that "leadership" was a key issue almost as I was posting the above. We really do not have anybody at all and especially in the centre of the park that can pull the rest of the squad up by their bootstraps. Our disciplinary record has been magnificent by comparison with some years under AP and whilst I dont for one moment want a team of cloggers, our inability to shut down games and conserve leads on the numerous occasions we've had them this season has been a real weakness. This especially apparent at home and must be driving the faithful nuts.geobarrovian wrote: ↑Thu Mar 29, 2018 9:36 pmI think there is a big lack of leadership in the team this season which does make me worry, not only did we lose a fantastic footballer in Danny Livesey but we lost a very influential player and that sort of thing is very difficult to replace, other than Holt I don't really think any of our current squad are really leaders hence why our current captain is who it is.Suffolk Blue wrote: ↑Wed Mar 28, 2018 10:29 pm

Various players have been let go and interior players brought in.Suffolk Blue wrote: ↑Thu Mar 29, 2018 10:38 pmTotally agree...and I myself came to the conclusion that "leadership" was a key issue almost as I was posting the above. Livesey was passionate and had alot of experience,I think he also worked well with Diarra who .to me has not improved as he should have.
The positions that need improving in the team are obvious but nothing has been done to bring inn better players.
I cannot see us staying up but I really hope we do ,next season will present a dilemma to Paul Casson if we do and we will see the extent of his commitment to the club.
On a side note is Dixon still at the club ,not seen him down as substitute lately

Re: games tonight
Well I agree with your comment re Diarra Pedro. He's been a great signing, works his socks off and always put his body in the way. But he is not a leader. Because of his size most people might assume otherwise. But actually he's quite a gentle giant and from the sidelines seems the least vocal of them all. That's probably why he complimented Livesey so well. Gomis is probably the closest to an old fashioned battler
