I'm clearly in the minority but it's a bad move for me, although depends how much it is him walking as opposed to us sacking him. I can see why it's been done, but I'd have at least waited until the summer. We'd have stayed up with him then I'd have sat down with him and had a serious discussion about where we were going.

Sacking managers every 6 months is going to get us nowhere and do we really have any faith that we'll get it right this time?

If you want to stay up then Keith Curle is your man He.ll get you 9 points without a shadow of a doubt.

And he.ll come like a shot for the 9 games if you just put a two-year contract on the table and tell him its his if he keeps you up.

And I can tell you he will already have done his homework on your players as anytime he's out of work he studies the players and whats wrong at the 10 clubs most likely to give him a call. He.ll also not bother about your location because he rents a house and moves up and goes home a couple of days a week when he can. The only downside I can see is that you'd likley get Colin West as well and he.s about as much use as a holeless backside

He won't take any crap whether its from a senior player or the chairman and when he keeps you up you can look forward to the likes of Nicky Adams etc next season. Ive seen you 4 times now this season and I can tell you there's half a decent team in there you just need someone without a blinkered view to pick his best 11 and stick with them like Simpson did at Carlisle.

Mind you I think whoever writes your press releases needs his arse-kicking “After discussions on Saturday, it was ultimately decided that we would go our separate ways,” said Chairman Paul Hornby." Yeah I can really see Cooper being the one who started that conversation can you ? Then they announce it was by mutual consent I think you can read into that Hornby agreed to say mutual consent so it doesn't go down on Cooper's CV as a sacking in return for paying a year's less wages in compo.

By mutual consent means to me that the club wanted him to go (ie a sacking) and he wanted to go as he knew he couldn't motivate the players.

I reckon that's a couple of black marks against his CV.

Whoever it is we should get the 'new manager bounce' like Carlisle and plenty of other sides. That of course is if the board makes the right decision which is what worries me as their knowledge of football seems to leave a lot to be desired.

I am a little shocked at this - timing wise and the fact we still (somehow) have a small cushion from the bottom two. I think calm and stability was needed and hope we haven’t pressed the panic button with this. That said it has been awful and yesterday was a culmination of the disappointment we’ve had at home games for a long time - not so much the defeat but the manner of the performance and the lack of fight and desire- it just wasn’t there. It was a horrible seeing it unfold. How much of that was down to Cooper and how much is down to the players - you can debate that all night long- what is important now is doing enough to stay up because relegation will undo everything we have worked for in getting back into the EFL and we would sink further. The only way this club can keep growing is to stay in the EFL. We need someone in who can get this team to fight and grind out results and can galvanise everyone to in what is now 9 games that could shape the fortunes of this club for years to come.

Wouldn't mind Curle to be honest. We just need a 'boring' mid table season next season, where we can see the improvements slowly.. Boring never seemed more appealing right now!

We've had excitment at both ends of the table the last few seasons anyway!

We need to build and I think Curle wouldn't be a bad person to help us thorugh this transition.

The board have to get this one right and set realistic targets for survival and then in to next season.

Absolutely the right decision, although I must admit to being surprised it happened.
We definitely have some decent players but it just needs the right person (or persons) to get the best out of them, get the bounce back in the dressing room, play players to their strengths and I believe we’ll be safe. The biggest problem anyone taking charge will have is trying to find a way for our strikers to start scoring a couple of goals….because I don’t fancy holding out for nine draws.

I just hope this isn’t a knee jerk reaction that may turn out to be a mistake. I hope it was “mutual” based on Cooper being unhappy and not sufficiently motivated. Possibly other things going on in his life, not for us to know.

Think we had reached the stage where he had to go, but as Chris Lumsden said on the radio post match, the players have to look at themselves as well, and ask if they were doing all they could.
As for Keith Curle, many of the things being said about him are the same things that were being said about Cooper when he was appointed - experienced, good contacts, mid-table consolidation, etc - so who knows?!!

I thought we’d bumble our way through to the summer, survive and then sit down and take stock. If it’s just going to be Taylor and Lillis to the end of the season then that would be concerning. I hope the board have something in mind.
